Engine shutting off while driving

Would anybody know why my engine is shutting off while i'm driving?
Happened to me 3x while driving home last night.
My bro thinks it has to do with the ignition ... which there might be a recall (i have a 99 civic si).
I called some dealerships today and they weren't helpful at all.

Sissley Honda - said there were no recalls for my car.

Parkway (where i usually get my car service) - could find my VIN in the database and they could answer if it was a recall or not.... so basically they weren't able to help me.

I'm welcome to any advice ..... thanks

Check out the following URL

It says Civic Sedan, but I think it was for all Civics those years.

Thanks "electronblue"

I was talking to my friend and we were both debating if the stalling was really do to the ignition.

I'm not having problems with the start up .... but i guess after reading the little note on that link you sent me .... it might be do to that after all

I'll bring my car into the dealership next week

thanks again

No problem, I remembered reading this before so I did a little search on our board and 2 minutes later had the info.

BTW, welcome to TCC

I don't think the coupes were affected. To test to see if it is the ignition switch, turn on the car and try moving around the key. If nothing happens, it isn't your ignition switch.

Going to the dealer is probably not a bad idea but if your VIN is not on the database, they won't just replace the switch. BTW have you recently added a remote starter or other accessory? That could be a factor.....

Just my $0.02.

Mark

My distributor did that to me on the 407 last summer because the bearings were siezed. I also had no problem starting I guess because they wouls seize up totally after a period of driving.
