emisions control issues - anyone else have this happen

Hey,

My buddies buddy just had his civ in for service and the dealer says the vapour canister is full of fuel because he's been filling the tank after the nozel clicks off.

You know, what we would consider topping up the tank.

The dealer has also told him that is he doesn't get it fixed now he risks having to replace a good chunk of the emmisions control system at a very high price.

Anyone else ever seen this??

I call BS in a big way.

Thanks

I always fill my car to the absolute top of the filler neck and I have never heard of such thing...if anything just goto a wrecker and get a new charcol canister and tell the mechanic to eat a fat one lol

The dealer is right, if he dosnt fix this now he will have to replace alot of parts. If you do top off the tank acouple of extra clicks the fuel will go into the vapour canister, and ruin alot of parts.

If i were your freind i would have it replaced.

yeah thats one of the worst things you can do to your EVAP system it will ruin the canister cause it will saturate the charcoal with fuel and liquid (fuel) can get into areas only vapors are supost to be

well I guess every car I have ever owned has had soaked canisters...and all of them gave me 0 problems.

if it is a 7th gen yes he will have problems if he continues to do that.6thgens and lower do not have this problem because the canister is under the hood where as the 7th gens are right next to the tank and have purge solenoids and 2 way by pass valves witch will pull fuel into the system for recycling but to much will cause damage. not the best system honda ever made but they will warranty it if it is in the emissions system and within warrany.
p.s. corrosion will be the worst enemy before the gas eats the shsit out of everything.

just go to the wreckers and get one...
