2nd gens are ok.

The saying in the DSM world is, if you want to go fast, get a first gen. Want to look good, get a 2nd gen.

Try to get a 93-94 they had bigger brakes for 1st gen.

If you want the 2nd gen go for the 96-97 model.

rofl who said high 16s?

anyway, take your time and find one in good condition. The 4g63 is a good strong motor, its the timing belts that seem to go often, possibly because people beat on them and dont do the correct maintanence or maybe they are just poorly designed. When the timing belt goes pistons meet valves as the 4g63 is an interference engine. The tranny should be fine provided you dont do 6k rpm clutch drops. The stock 1g clutch can only take 250ish hp b4 it starts to slip. Intake, boost controller and exhaust and you should in the low 14s. If it was me id make sure I got a AWD 1g

They weakest parts are the trannys. They ARE ****......lol.

Spoonfed: your right about the big brakes but the 91-92 (till a certain month of production) had the 7 bolt flywheel whichwas a stronger engine.
In 95 things went downhill because mitsu cheaped out on materal costs.

the 1g's had bigger intercoolers and a bigger turbo and 6 boolt motors...yada yada....jsut remember that these cars are like 13 years old so when you start modding them and driving them hard if they havn't been maintained then they will break....most tranny issues are from launchign way to hard and way to often....look at www.dsmtalk.com and read up they will teach you alot....you will learn the what the following mean... knock count, 16G , 14B, FP Green, 3 bolt 4 bolt 6 bolt 7 bolt.....CRANK WALK.....just look for a car that hasnt' been abused...get a 1g they are the easiest to make fast because of the turbo and bigger cooler

So, thats why we have a TCC Discussion area

to talk about anything

I am getting a 99 Eclipse GSX AWD in the spring

I love the way those cars look, and for a very small amount of $$$ you can make them fast

I know they are not reliable as HONDA'S but its something different on the street, and its has Great potential

you see civic's everywhere but need lots of $$ to make them fast
