Jeez I taught this girl Brandy to drive my civic. She was a really hott, petite girl, and I just wanted to be a nice guy. Well we get in and she's does pretty terrible for a bit, we didn't even move really. Then she finally get the car to move like 15 km/h and smoothly... Were cruisin at that speed, she's scared to shift... Coming to a corner in the camp ground we were in.. I'm like Shift! which she barely pulls off. we get to the corner and were doing like 25 - 30 she can't turn the Wheel!!! I have no power steering and she's mad small/ weak. heading straight off the road towards some trees..... AHHH! YANKED the ebrake and yelled stop! She slams the brake clutch still engaged... my poor Lil Civic.. we didn't hit the trees but the car did not like that! stalled right out and everything. I said never again!

how can you guys get mad for teaching someone who doesn't know how to drive 5 speed, for stalling a car? Honestly, it’s not a simple, gas then brake, honestly it is something that takes some skill and practice.

you guys are basically saying, give a guy a tool and tell him to do a motor swap...

not everything comes naturally, and not everyone learns at the same pace as others

if anyone is to blame it is you, for NOT doing proper research. If you did a simple search, you would have gotten plenty of responses like these. People telling you their bad experiences with teaching noobs how to drive 5 speed and you could have made your decision from that on whether or not you wanted to still teach

i learned how to drive standard when i was 9 growing up in the philippines, everyone there had stick so you had no choice, and ohh i learned how to ride a motorcycle when i was 8! haha but i would never let anyone touch my car unless I KNEW they know how to drive stick. they would have to buy a beater with a 5spd for me to teach them

If you could drive stick better, would you drive it all the time? Or are you ok with driving auto?

Nah, it doesn't always happen. I have friends with grown kids, and the husbands (and some of the wives ) will never give up their standard cars for auto.

...The Mazda 5 comes with a 5-speed...

But my wife and I both agree never to own a minivan. We both hate them. Wagons ftw!

So you prefer an auto over stick, be it in traffic or not?

This was my point before, that most women who can drive stick, choose not to or don't see it as something important to learn how to do.

For men, it's kind of important to be able to drive stick (no offense to those who can't). It's kind of like saying you know how to handle/control a car in a superior way.

I prefer to drive auto to be honest, I don't see the importance of driving stick. Or even why it is seen as such a “big deal.” It doesn't make me any less or more 'cool' nor does it make my car any less cool or more cool.

For guys, I get this feeling if they don’t drive stick they feel like they are losers. They NEED to drive stick to fit in. If you have a civic, teggy, etc and its auto everyone picks on them, so now it seems necessary for everyone to drive stick in you want to fit in, in the car seen.

I am perfectly fine knowing I drive an auto and to be honest I don't care.

Besides, nothing shifts faster than an automatic

Stick - you're driving
Auto - you're steering

That's it in a nutshell.
