Don't let others drive your 5 speed...
So this weekend I tried to teach two people to drive stick... and I have never felt so dumb and embarassed in my whole life! I was so pissed off at myself for allowing this... I don't know why I was being so nice for.. but sure did end up feeling like a grade-A idiot... I've never seen somebody stall a car so horribly in my life... I mean ya people learn and stuff.. people stall but like... there is a limit.. it's one thing for the car to shut off and what not but how do you get into 1st gear... floor it to like 4k rpm.. and then take your foot off the clutch when it slows down below 1K rpm.. im like CLUTCH IN CLUTCH IN!!! all i heard was thud thud thud clunk... .. nothing happened to my car.. but.. i don't know i kind of gave up after this experience!
any how just felt like sharing this here... i sure won't be teaching anybody 5 speed unless they buy a 5 speed car and ask me to help..
but yea i hope nobody had this experience... and i hope nobody has to feel dumb like i did!

I taught a 17 year old kid to drive stick with my civic a while back, but he already knew the basics and caught on to it right away. Only stalled it a few times.
Some people can do it, some need a lot of practice but will get better over time, and some just can't no matter what.
I'm glad your car wasn't damaged...lol I feel for you and your car...
For those who don't seem to be improving or can't seem to grasp the concept at all, I tell them just to stick with auto...lol.
There are places where people can sign up for lessons to learn stick, I'd suggest that for the people your were teaching. Go wreck someone elses car! lol

I bought my car with the intentions to learn stick. My dad drove it to a parking lot and let me try, it was terrible... I stalled often. I tried 2 more times and said screw it, I better get a lesson or I'll blow my tranny. So booked a one hour lesson with one of those drivers schools, figured it out and that's all it took.
In hindsight, should've taken the lesson first, then tried on my car, but I didn't damage anything, just an ego/frustration thing to learn.

I learned to drive stick in my civic. I knew the basics ( what gear to be on) so the first day i bought it , i took it to work and drove it back , maybe stalled twice.
I tried to teach my wife how to drive it and it was a horrible experience thats why i bought her a mazda 3 automatic. However my brother learned it pretty fast , first time he tried it in the parking lot he was already good enough to go out in the streets. He is not perfect but he is pretty good.
Depends on who you are teaching i guess

Fore some, it's easy. For others, they just can't do it. Don't really know why...
I grew up on a farm, driving standard transmission tractors etc since I was 5...just came naturally. My friend's first car in high school was an 89 mazda 323 5-speed (great little car) and it took him weeks to learn and get it right...It's different for everyone.

I don't think it's that women can't drive stick, it's that they don't have the need or desire to drive stick, in the way that men do. At least that's the way I see it. I'm sure there are just as many women who can drive stick as good as men can.

This was shocking to me when i was teaching few people how to drive stick, it seems that females learn much quicker lol. they dont know what they are doing but atleast not like guys they dont wanna shift through all the gears right away.

I started teaching my wife a few years ago. Never finished teaching her, but she could do it fine if she had to and took the time to practice a bit. She drive's an auto and that is just easier for her. It's not that she can't drive stick.
