A CRX fixer upper

I'm looking at a car right now under the classifieds and it needs a LOT of work done.

I'm not too sure about the engine because I havent' checked it out but there's still some rust and it needs a paint job. Now I'm guessing that'll be around a $1000 job.

Now for the part where I don't know.

It needs a new drive shaft, clutch and windshield. Also the sunroof needs to be fixed too.

So anyone know an aprox. of how much it'll cost to put everything together?

Stay away from really bad crx's ! They can become a real nuisence to fix, and can become a real money-pit !
Parts are not that easily available, and the dealer charges an arm and a leg for new parts !!!

I , on the other hand get amazing prices on parts, since I work at a Honda dealer.

Also, about the rust, if it's not cut out, it will always come back.

oh, and about a paint job for $1000 ? Is that just for labour?
hahaha....

A REAL re-spray (with bodywork done) would cost about $3-$4000, if done properly.Anything that is cheaper, is butchered.

good luck

I'd "consider" selling mine for $8k, but since I won't get it I'm not selling it.

But be patient and wait for a nice CRX, although its hard it is possible! Just look at RobM3's!

ROBM3 a real paintjob and bodywork doesnt cost a heck of a lot.
it tends to cost only under 1000.00 dollars.
its the LABOUR that is over priced etc....
i get insider deals therefore i pretty much do it for cost price but ontop put a couple a bux to cover my time. cuz either way i would only get paid like around 17 bucks or so an hour.
just because its cheap doesnt mean they do a cheap job if u kno the peeps and u got the links u can pretty much get it done for free and done mint aslong as the shop knows wat they are doing.
if i were to paint the car at honda they would ask me 10 grand for like say an accord. but many dealers get the cars painted at local places for around 2 grand and then charge 8 grand extra. that is bullshit.

well,
I "great" paintjob to you might be a "shitty" painyjob to me.

Remember , you get what you pay for !
A concours/show quality respray is not cheap ....especially if there is rust or bodywork involved.

If you have connections, is a different story. I was referring to
an average person/consumer.

A proper oem quality paintjob is going to cost you alot of money and even then its not original.......ive seen so many ef civics and crxs that have had a new paintjob and the trim has been painted over and is a hackjob.......these cars are worth nothing

That crx was a write-off in my opinion..

There was no sunroof, it was all putty.. THe wheel wells were held together by pretty much tin FOIL sheet metal.

That car had so many rust holes it was insane. I would say that car is now 30% putty and 70% metal..

If your gonna buy that, I'd say buy for the motor and interior.. the body is done..

Actually I am serious, but I know theres no way in hell I'd get that much for my car.
Besides I love my CRX way too much.

but like crxlover says and I agree, oem paint is the best!

OEM PAINT RULES !!!
MY RED CRX HAS VERY LITTLE RUST ON IT . I am gonna
fix it eventually and retain most of the original paint on it, if I can .
I am gonna have the shop just cut out the rust and reweld new metal and just paint that small area.
The OEM paint is really shiny when it's clean. I just have to repaint teh front hood, due to stone chipping, as well as teh sunroof panel (of course) Besides that, the red one is a great car !

Very little crx's still have original paint left on them ! To me, that is a very big deal when looking to buy these cars.

rob there are ways o f still ebing able to keep the oem colour when ur fixing small rust spots if u got some money to spend.
basically after cutin and welding the rust get it painted and then repaint it (obvioulsy the paint wont match the colour of the body) so wat u do is get the shop to cut down the clear coat a bit on the entire car and then re clear it completely that way it will all be blended in and perfect.
