8000 down but still paying 500 bucks per month?
Are you talking about leasing or Financing there?
It looks kinda high if that's a lease...

A question for you, will this be your first child? If you only have one child, why do you need that much room? Why not just go with an a sedan (ie. an Accord) or maybe a wagon or the like (ie. Toyota Matrix) if you need more than a Civic. I just think too many people have kids and suddenly they think that they must have an SUV or minivan (no offense to you).

Just my 2 cents.

whoa whoa whoa... let's back that *** up on the Toyota Matrix idea... he didn't lose his mind, he just had a kid. Let him buy a CRV or Element.

Maybe a Jetta TDI wagon if you're feeling silly But the AWD and new car appeals to parents.

BTW, AWD doesn't make the braking any better, eh? Just means you can drive in a snowstorm, but it doesn't mean you can stop too. Lighter cars are safer 100% IMO.

Kia Sportage is a cool mini-SUV as is the Suzuki one... what's it called

The matrix is a nice option too.

Watch out for the CRV though, 2 diff b20 motors

b20b in pre 99 models has like 130 hp

and b20z 99 + has like 145 or more.

I agree. We bought a second hand 93 Mazda 626 when we were expecting my first child back in 96, The car worked out fine. Once we had the second one, we ended up getting a Montana Van. Trust me, when you have two or more, you need the room. With one, you will think you need to pack the whole house when travelling, but once you get use to it, you realize, you don't need that much room. I think EL_Sport's suggestions are good ones.

Just speaking from experience.....

You could even probably make do with the hatch that you have, it'll just be a bit difficult to get your kid into the back seat since there are only 2 doors. It can be done, but life with 4 doors is just easier (especially when you gotta strap the kid down into the baby seat!)

i like the accord but i could get a CRV for the same price and i think i would rather have that. this will be my first baby, and i don't plan on having another one for a while. i test drove a 99 CRV strapped to a 5spd and it zipped. i enjoyed the ride.
thanks for everyone's options so far.

CR-V's are an ok car.. We had a '97 CRV, first year they made them I think. Its what I learned to drive in too!! It was an alright car.. and despite what people think, some people ARENT looking for an ultra powerful car.. you don't need 200hp twin turbo to get you from point A to point B safely... But anyways, the CR-V for intown driving and out and about was very nice.. and winterdriving.. we traded it in for a 2002 Protege5, we miss the CR-V alot for the winter around here (up north). It handled decent in snow and the 4wd alltime or whatever actually did pretty decent and gave you the traction when you needed it. The interior is roomy and gives you lots of space if you need it, We used to pack so much crap into that small SUV, and if you compare it to a tracker or a RAV4, it blew away the competition at the time.. Plus you have Honda Reliability. The only reason why we traded it was because I got my honda civic and my mom wanted something that cost her less in fuel (the protege5). If you are thinking about the CRV and you like it, thats awesome, its a good car and its safe and performs well IMO.

sorry for the rant.
