Profiling is a standard tool in police work, and is perfectly legal.

Targeted vehicle inspections and enforcement is not harrassment or illegal either, and is a common practice.

Targeting modded cars for inspection is no different than the ongoing programs that target old junkers, big trucks, UHaul trucks, people hauling trailers on long weekends, etc. And does anyone remember last year when Peel Police announced to the media that they would be doing frequent random vehicle stops and documentation inspection specifically on Hondas, to try and combat high theft rates of the brand?

It's all legal, then and now. If it wasn't, the courts would have already struck down similar targeting done in past.

From a law stand point sounds right.

I was looking over the
HWY Tracffic Act and with a short over view I didn't see anything to do with motor swaps?

For Act 75, can somone give me some more details about what consists of a straight exhaust? That means just a pipe no muffler to me?

Noise, smoke, bells and horns

Muffler

75. (1) Every motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and excessive smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device upon a motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 75 (1).

Here are the fines I found for that Act 75.

ONTARIO COURT OF JUSTICE

Schedule 43

204. No muffler - motor vehicle 75 (1) $85.00
205. No muffler - motor assisted bicycle 75 (1) $85.00
206. Improper muffler - motor vehicle 75 (1) $85.00
207. Improper muffler - motor assisted bicycle

Just though that I would add this. A EK Civic with euro lights pined under a truck.

http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_9985.aspx

How the accedient happen is unknowned, but how much you want to bet people are going to assume it was cause by street racing. I mean it's a civic with euro lights, had to be a street racer right?

I hate the way people judge civic drivers. My $0.02.

Now that I've got another look it could be a 92-95 coupe. Crazy.

Nope, but one of the mods on that modded Honda may be the root cause of the crash...

Police are still looking for witnesses to sort out what happened, but believe the victim was pulling over to the left shoulder because his after-market fibreglass bumper was falling off the recently purchased used vehicle.

Listen, Darknights is killed now because of police trying to harass the modded car culture that i enjoy and giving them more power to do so just pisses me off. I guess you like when the police stop you, or follow you just because you're driving a civic. Its a waste of my time and also wasting my tax money. This new street-racing law is bull**** and they are just trying to make the public believe they somehow stopped the "big bad streetracer who kills innocent people". Why dont they get off their asses and find the people stealing our cars and stealing our parts. I never heard them announce an anti theft program.

Its just another reason to harass me, and to make everyone believe that they are doing their job. Which they don't, so I dont support this at all.

Someone lost their ITR and it was recovered within a week. You only have so many police officers on force, I am sure they are doing their job in many other areas.

You obey speed limit, drive within your lane and practice a good driving habbit, what is there to worry about?

I dont drive fast, and I still get cops following me and stopping me out of the blue to check out what I have. I signal, I dont tailgate what else can I say. Its another reason for them to do so because im a "Racer" in their eyes. They shouldn't have the right to stop me just because I have a civic.

I wasnt talking about recovering cars, because they've already done damage and taken what they want by then. They're never around when it happens and also, Ive never heard of them recovering lost items from stolen cars etc. Ive had my car stolen and they didnt even check the car, they just impounded it and told me to pick it up.

If they put as much effort into finding out more about thefts as they did "streetracing" they would have the city locked down.

They have helicopters looking at industrial areas for streetracing, when a car gets stolen i dont see them pulling out the helicopters.

In grand scheme of things, to use a helicopter as a resource on a stolen vehicle is kinda a waste. You would see choppers flying all over the sky, day and night if they put that much forces on this topic alone.

Being followed is another way of them checking stolen vehicles. Since Civics have such high theft rate, it is logical for them to check the license plate and make sure the car you are driving is not a stolen one.
