Cobalt SS SC? What do u guys think?

Just to add to this, I think markpa has already made his decision not to get it but I was reading through a Consumer's Report and they rated the expected reliability of the Cobalt as "Below Average"...which almost everyone here seems to agree with. How about the Civic? It was their top pick with "Above Average" expected reliability....
If you factor in resale I would pay the extra for an '06 Si instead of a Cobalt SS or stick with my 6th gen...for now.
I also sat in a Cobalt, admittedly, I haven't driven one but the interior quality to me felt like GM has improved to Honda standards but Honda standards of 10 years ago...similar to an EK, the FA/FG (8th gen) is far more superior.
Just my $0.02

First off, for those of you who said you can't do much more with an SC engine....uh....you sure as hell can! get underdrive accessory pullies and a smaller SC pully, bigger injectors, ECU retune/reflash, heck you can even twincharge it!!!(supercharger with a turbocharger)
There was a twin charged SS SC at this years j-body bash...it was SICK!!!
Also, 223whp reminds me of the 230whp that the stock srt-4's put down....and oh yeah....the srt-4 is a 2.4L and the SS SC is only a 2.0L, so yes, that power is impressive. It's a classic example of what they used to do back in the 60's and 70's with the muscle cars, they would give them understated hp ratings purposely to help with insurance rates etc...
As for reliability, I've here many times over that the srt-4 engines are ticking time bombs that tend to let go easily after being modified even more. Since the ecotec in the cobalt is good for 500hp on the stock bottom end, i'd take my chances with the cobalt.
On another note, i just have to say this, the name "cobalt" is the most stupid name for any car i have ever heard!!!! LOL
Well.....enough of my ranting.....

True, however, i should hope if your planning on making a decent amount of extra power you'd replace the clutch with a better one, as we all know stock clutches can't handle ****.
If you going for 500hp one would assume you don't just do strictly the motor, but all the other components that are also neccessary such as; axles, and clutch....
Don't get me wrong dude, i agree with you, I just didn't list every mod you need to go with 500hp, just metioned the fact that the SS SC would make as much power as the srt-4 and be more reliable.

Now I don't care for the Colbalt but I have to disagree with the choice of limited upgradability for the Cobalt SS. Supercharging isn't as common with imports and not too many people in the part of the scene know too much about it but there is an upgrade path. Hell, Endyn makes a high horsepower supercharger kit for the D Series.
Just my 2c.
