clutch on 99 1.6EL

whats a clutch job usually cost on 1.6EL/96-00 Civic Si. i'll be supplying the clutch (ACT) and all parts including throw-out bear, etc...so what would labour costs. i know my clutch is going, so i'm going to start ordering the parts, but i need to know what labour would cost from those who have done this.

i've got 184,000km on it, figure i can squeeze out 190-195,000 before it completely goes...i hope.

4 or so hours plus the cost of machining the flywheel. If you want a lightened flywheel nows the time to put one in, i got a 7lb and i love it

i'll definately be going lightened flywheel (9lbs) too along with ACT clutch/pressure plate.

I know its going cause its slipping quite a bit and is behaving alot different. hard to explain, but at stop lights sometimes it grabs no prob and goes, other times it slips and thge rpm's go up but it barely moves the car. this has happened alot more lately. also, shifting into 3rd, it grinds now from time to time even if i'm not shifting fast, almost like the clutch is not fully releasing. when i bought the car at 168,000km never did these things, now its fine sometimes but behaves really strange others. km now its 184,XXX. not a great explaination i know, but its kind of drive it and you'd know what i mean

4 hours, not bad at all. i know and am friends with guys that own a shop and they only charge $55 labour, so thats not bad at all. all the parts will be coming from the US too, so this is not as expensive as i originally thought.

ACT clutch will hold 280lb-ft of torque, so any future upgrades including turbo will be covered.

If you have been "driving it like you stole it", I would say that your current clutch will last a week.

Order your parts ASAP and try to baby the clutch...i.e. double clutch when downshifting or don't use your engine brake.

If "it has happened alot more lately" it may soon happen all the time and the car won't move at all.

haha, no i don't drive it like i stole, i just like that saying. i go very easy on the clutch and don't downshift often at all to save gas. ya, gonna order the parts very soon so i atleast have them incase it does go.

wicked, thanks for the contacts mike, i'll get in touch with them.

how hard is it to do yourself. my dad has a garage with ramps, jackstands and all the tools needed, could the two of us change the clutch, pressure plate and install a new flywheel (lightened) properly over like 4-6 hours. with an alignment tool of course. i'll see if i can find a step-by-step, or buy a helms manual for el of civic si

def a DIY, not really that tough just need to take your time and take alot of bolts off etc (bag them and label so you dont loose)

mine as well pick up another flywheel for cheap and have it resurfaced ahead of time if you dont want the car to have downtime, if not just take it to a shop once you get it all off.

Your gonna need some other sockets though, I think its a 17mm 12point and a 12mm 12point or something like that. One socket is for the bolts holding the flywheel on, and the smaller ones are for the PP assembly onto the flywheel, you need 12point ones as the regualr 6 wont fit.

ordering Exedy OE clutch and Exedy OE flywheel tomorrow off ebay (Seller has amazing 6000 feedback 99.9% positive). i'll have all the parts in 3 weeks when family comes here from rochester. i've got someone willing to do it for $150 so i'm going to pay to have it done since they know what they are doing and its a few hours work so its a fair price.

i need it to be done all at once thats why i'm just buying another flywheel new, all done for $225cdn at my door step clutch kit and flywheel (its posted on another thread since i was asking how Exedy is)

thanks everyone.
