Civics are slow, save your money!

Civics are slow, save your money!
This goes out to all the young kids who spend MEGA bucks for engine swaps and/or turbo'ing your honda.... DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT throw money like that into your car.
Modifying the handling, brakes, looks, sure why not, but dont even bother modding a fwd car. After I rebuilt the head on my buddys almost 350whp talon last night, we went for a rip and it was disgusting. Later that night I went for a spin in a sr20'd 240sx... completely insane.
You can't launch anywhere near what you could in a rwd or awd car.... It'll always be a catchup game... in the corners you'll understeer off a cliff, and in a straight line... but as I digress... all the young kids on the board who think they'll be super fast with a swap, etc... dont waste your time and money.
I'm done my ranting.... no flaming intended, just stating my opinion.

**** I sound like a retard.... I just re-read my post. I hope you all kind of understand what I was trying to say.
Turbo hatch? I might boost it over the winter if I can locate an LSD, but I'm very frustrated... I might go buy another DSM in a few weeks and say **** it to civics.

too many ppl get into Civics expecting all the wrong things Torrey. you must LOVE a Civic first and foremost... not expect to fall in love with it after $20K in mods. it's the same as with girls... some ppl think they'll fall in love after they marry, or after they have kids, and that's why ppl divorce. cars are not that much different.

exactly, cars are cars. DSM's are cars. I left the mustang days for a civic because it does what it's expected of. I love the gas mileage, I love the reliablity, I love the fact that people come together more than any other club to talk about our lil civics.
DSM's are not known for those things.
What makes a DSM so amazing? I've driven in an older Tsi, and driven one of the newer ones(actually an eclipse T-same thing right?). Maybe I missed something?
oh and Torrey, I drove a supercharged(not JRSC-something else) frankenstein Integra, it was pretty quick. up there with some mild stangs.
Get a camaro or mustang if you want to impressed. If you love the AWD aspect, save up for a legacy.
just my 2 cents so don't hate

LMAO.... FWD understeering .... LOL ... only if setup wrong .... very funny Torrey ... ROFLMAO.....
you got one thing right Civics are not for straight line speed if I was drag racing I'd brng a talon ... if I'm autocrossing or tracking a car with corners I'd bring a civic.... it's all about the usage...

Built hondas are great! I love my honda to death, But I still have my RWD IS300 for power, handling and fun. The only thing that the my IS300 has over my honda is power and comfortablitiy.
Other than that the honda still does what i want it to do. There will always be a spot in my garage for a Honda.

I think after reading honda-tech each day while im at work has gotten to me... some of those guys have dumped an insane amout of money into their cars, and even if its fast on the track, it'll be undrivable on the street.
But I guess you can't complain THAT much in owning a civic, like Sam said, gas is cheap and so are parts.

i bought my honda only for reliability, gas mileage and for the looks
ill upgrade the engine when i want speed
if i wanted a fast car it would have cost me much more to buy it and the insurance would be retarted
if i woulda bought a old fast car, like a muscle car of some sort, it once again woulda been too much on insurance and would either be a fixer upper, which would be expensive on parts, and if i found a car in which someone else has already done spent their time and money fixing it up already, then it would be way out of my budget once again
so the best option i could see is buying a car within my budget that will always drive, and when i get extra cash ill upgrade my civics engine making it much faster and still as reliable

Car modding is a hobbie, and any hobbie going over board will turn into a disaster. We all know the good ol' story where the wife divorced her loving husband because he does only fishing on his free time; or the kid who died mysteriously cause he played too much computer game.
Hobbie keeps us occupied while our minds are off the important things - acadamic, work, relationship...etc When a hobbie takes over, it will become work, that generates revenue as your living source, in which, it will no longer be a hobbie.
Having said that, most of us mod our cars to go fast or to do whatever, must not forget that there will always be someone else faster. It is where you want to stop and feel satisfied on your own little arts and crafts, not what someone else says. I know my car is damn slow, and handles like crap. But because I am not competing with anyone else, therefore, I will never feel ashamed when a faster car drives by. I cannot deny the fact that some of the cars are equipped with the parts I wish I had on my car, but that doesn't mean I must have what other people have.
I am building up my interests in this car hobbie and taking it one step at a time. I wish I can keep my car for as long as I can, simply because I have no reason to get rid of it.

maybe you should of bought a car thats cheaper to fix up?
everything has comprimises.. you want reliablilty, you have to pay for it in other aspects of the vehicle..
you think your buddy with a 350whp talon can drive that thing 20000km a yr and do only routine general maintance..

For commuting, I drive my economical Civic, for comfort, I drive my TL, for straight line speed, I drive my Trans Am....no problems.
I understand what Torrey is talking about however. That's why my Civic is pretty much stock except for the wheels/tires. I bet it will out handle a lot of lowered cars out there...and I have a nice comfortable ride, I don't have to worry about going over train tracks or driveways .
DoubaD: the insurance on my muscle car is actually much cheaper than the insurance on my Civic...go figure.
Engrish Police! (Where's ryanhook when you need him?)
comfortablitiy = comfort
hobbie = hobby
Seriously, the English on this board is sometimes pretty bad. Even my JDM GF has better English than a lot of people here...
People please understand the differences between "there", "their" and "they're" or "too" and "to". This is Elementary school stuff.
Sorry for my rant on English but it bothers me and I even hated English when I was in school...
