I'm planning on getting a 5th or 6th generation civic. I was wondering what is the difference between LX, DX, EX, SI, SE. Also do all of them have drums for the rear brakes?
I'm planning to get one so later I can swap a B16 in. Which year and model would be best for that?

Ever hear of Google? Or the search button?
Si comes only in coupe for 6th gen and coupe/hatch in 5th. Ex is only sedan. Ex and Si have vtec engines. The others don't. B16 would be a great swap for all models. But why b16? Go for b18: more power/torque. Or go k swap, best 4 cylinder Honda engine could be.

Don't get a B18 ls, they are slow.
I raced a b18 LS ek (6th gen) hatch at cayuga. Even when I fudged the launch and he had a good cars length on me, my heavier 00' SiR with the b16a2 still pulled on the LS and came out on top every time. (my car was stock at the time)

What year? As long as basic maintenance was done (oil changes, timing belt, water pump, etc) you shouldnt have any problems. The 96-00 ones didnt really have any major issues. My 98 Si was a great car. Totally problem free the 5 years and 100k or so I had it for.

back to b-series, i went from d16z6 to b18a1 and the power difference is very noticible. even thought the ls motors have no vtec and are lil low in power, but in an eg shell they would be fun. also you could do ls-vtec later so it wouldnt rape your budget instantly and make decent power.
