checking a VIN #
guys question, my buddies looking @ a motor right now.. is there a way of checking to see if this motor is stolen or legit?, would you use the VIN # to find out? or should he require something else?

Engine's don't have the VIN# on them do they?
Just the engine code I thought... |

oh..and some people remove the vin off the blocks just because they don't want their own car tracked down through it..
|
is that illegal? b/c the VIN is not noticeable?
|
i'm not 100% but i think so because the vin's were stamped on to verify the oe vehicle.. but then again practically every part of my car has my vin on it.. even the damn bumper lol...

yeah, the engine block has the vin on it, as for the op's question i guess you could run the vin and check if the car was reported stolen on cafax or w.e and if it comes up with a red flag then there's your answer, but really if someone jacked it in most cases they would grind it off or something..seen a few of those

oh, if you can't spot it...its at the bottom... the green tab with the numbers & letters.
