Check Engine Light

He is driving a 98 Si (d16y8 engine) therefore it does not have the same exhaust manifold/catalytic converter assembly as the d16y7 engine. The catalytic converter is separate from the exhaust manifold and located underneath the car just behind the engine.
Since your car is a 1998 it means that it is past the emissions warranty. The most economical route would be to replace the faulty converter with the appropriate aftermarket converter from a reputable exhaust shop.
Best of Luck.

thanks for the advice, i just finished writing a long pleading letter to honda. IT stated my profound love for the organization but expressed my distress as a struggling teenager who bought a civic based on their strong history of dependability.
I made sure they knew that I was going to be buying Hondas for the rest of my life, so maybe, just maybe they will help me out.
Nihon Auto said it would cost around 400$
About the high flow cat, since it allows more emissions to pass through to my exhaust, wouldent it cause my check engine light to permanetly be on.
My check engine light has been on for 4 months now, luckily i still passed emissions and have another two years before i need to replace it, but that ****ing light pisses me off
At night, that bright orange light is so annoying
I even paid 45$ to get the code erased, but after a cruise at a constant speed it lights up again,

Honda Canada is real sticky with warranty. I've seen dealers get unpaid for warranty work because of something small.

You can easily find a used cat or entire OEM exhaust for your 98 Si. I GAVE mine away when I replaced it. Search the classifieds, there should be a few in there.
Your car is too old and has too many k's for warranty work from Honda.

do you know that its a cat code for sure if it is i think it only measures cat flow effiiency and if thats the case you should be able to use an aftermarket cat
ask them for the code or get a second opinion
