Cars for SALE rant

is it just me or have you guys noticed the increasing amount of car owners that want to sell their cars are posting in the forums here and everywhere else their for sale is posted that there are no test pilots, no test drivers.

This must be the stupidest thing i have ever heard/read.

You want to sell your car to someone and they are not allowed to test drive it for themselves to make sure they like it and its actually functioning properly? and to top it off what makes it worse is that they will drive for you and you just sit on the passanger seat and are supposed to enjoy the ride?

i understand that the seller doesnt want to give the vehicle to an inexperienced person nor screw up their insurance by getting into an accident but this is still pretty rediculous.

how exactly do they plan on selling the car? let alone to which idiot?

i absolutely see no point in putting that up in their for sale section. all they have to do is when the potential buyer or looker is there that they do not allow the vehicle to be test driven for certain reasons unless a deposit is laid down (showing the seriousness of the buyer OR take them to a damn empty parking lot).

i think putting up ABSOLUTELY NO TEST PILOTS etc just reduces the amount of potential buyers by a lot.

discuss.....

p.s for the guys that are going to say "if it annoys you then dont read it or check it" it doesnt bother me i just want to know what others think.

You bring up a great point Jay.

I personally would never buy a car without driving it myself. Its a long term investment. You can't be 100% until you at least drive it.

Regarding the posts with that written, its stupid.

a car an investment? I dont think so. I think you meant it ties up a bit of funds. Maybe if you have an old mustang or something along that line.
For the no test pilots.... I agree this has to be the dumbest thing I have noticed lately. Everyone is getting rid of their civics probably because of insurance rates, theft, Michael Bryant etc but to say " you cant drive it, you can only look" wtf, you obviously dont want to get rid of it that bad.

they are most likely trying to weed out people who will come, waste their time, and just want to drive their car for the hell of it.

a civic is a civic, almost all of them drive the same. and a great majority of people would not be able to pick out most problems from driving the car alone anyways.

if you dont let other people drive your car under normal circumstances, then why would you trust some random person showing up on your door step?

i guess you are the type of person that would buy a pair of jeans without trying them on first....b/c a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans right?

I wouldn't ever even consider looking at a car i knew i couldn't drive before buying.
Just b/c you can't tell whats wrong with the car from a test drive doesn't mean you shouldn't drive it to find out that it works properly. How pissed would you be if you bought the car and on the way home you found out that 3rd, and 4th gear grinded and 5th gear popped out of gear when you drove?...and the car hesitated all over the place?
Although, i guess thats what you'd deserve for not test driving the car first. Or when ur jeans don't fit right, or look good, thats what you'd deserve for not trying them on in the store....the wife does this all the time, and i just laugh at her when she tells me she's going back to the store to exchage her clothes that don't fit, or when i see her cleaning out her closet of the clothes she's bought but never worn b/c they don't fit or look good.
Anyways, i agree with you Jay 100%....but you can't control what others do.

Ya, I could see the no test-pilot thing if they were selling a Ferrari or something (it would be interested if somebody was selling a Ferrari on TCC forums, lol)...

but ya for a Civic, I really don't think it needs to be said...

I practically bought my car before even sitting in it....however before I signed and sealed the deal, I did make sure I took it for a good test drive first.

I can see how you don't want just anyone driving your car and saying they are 'test driving' it and beating the crap out of it no matter what kind of car it is, with no intention of buying. Thats why you say 'serious inquiries only'.

If someone test drove my car I would be in the passenger seat and they beat the crap out of then they will get a punch in the throat.

i made the guy who bought my car beat on it for a little while.. he was hesitant at first, but i told him everything is nice and sound with the car, he will beat on it anyways after he buys it, and if it can't handle a little beating now, then how can he trust the thing to last him a few more years..

I agree, there is nothing wrong with doing a thorough test drive (meaning working it through the revs and gears, taking turns at a good pace), but there is no need to beat on the car till you own it...

my 2 cents

Hmm for the most part I agree. I have a post with the "sorry no test pilots" in it because it's RHD and I'm sure most people haven't driven a RHD before. If I was seling my LHD civic though I'd for sure let whoever drive cuz I know I'd want to. I'll take you for a ride through all the gears, high rpm and fast turns but I won't wanna risk first time RHD drivers testing the car.

I've heard of a couple times when the person "buying" the car assaults the owner while on the test drive, then pushes the owner out of the car (one was beaten with something, the other got tazed). These were higher end/highly modified cars.
I see both sides of it, why take a risk with some moron behind the wheel of the car you still own, but like already stated, who wants a car they aren't allowed to test out first.

Yes, many problems can't be noticed with a test drive, but you can't hear the wheel bearing noise while it's sitting in the drive-way either..

yes that is possible but the owner of the car is an idiot for not taking valid drivers information first.

i never let anyone drive my car or any cars in my possession unless i have a copy of their licence for several reasons.
