My buddy bought a theft recovery Si hatch, had an accord steering wheel w/ removed airbag, mismatched door panels, and marijuana stuffed under the centre console lol. He paid 4000 for it too. It was in rough shape too.

I think if the car was reported as stolen before, on the vehicle history package, it will be listed as a salvage or possibly stolen during the lifetime of the car.

Put that in your own shoes...if you are shopping for a 94 Civic with Perfect condition, no rust no nothing...
You check the VIN through MTO or Carfax...
Boom...
Vehicle came from Montreal,
Theft recovery.

Would you buy it?

I wouldn't....

Same with some cars that you found in auction...

so apart from the mental fact that it was a recovered car....
there is no other problem... it wouldn't affect your insurance...
you might have a slight problem when trying to resell the vehicle.... but apart from that there's no other problem.. am i right ?

Some theft recoveries won't get relicensed.

In order to get a salvaged vehicles back on the road and get insured...as far as I know, you need some kind of safety certificate...which is different than the cert. that's required when you register a used car.

Check the MTO website for details.

Check if there are any liens on the car, cuz if there are YOU will end up paying the lien.

If a car is stolen, the ownership will forever be labelled as a theft/recovery. It won't affect your insurance or anything. The only major affect it will have for you is when YOU try to sell it again.

I dont think this is correct, how would the ministry know if your car was stolen and recovered?? My dad's caravan was stolen for a joy ride, police recovered it and body shop fixed the door lock and ignition lock, insurance paid for it, nothing different on his ownership, ministry has now idea what happens to your car.

Did some checking!

Stolen Vehicles
My vehicle has been stolen. What should I do?
If your vehicle is stolen it is important to notify the police. The Ministry of Transportation is notified by police when vehicles have been stolen and all vehicle transactions involving stolen vehicles are blocked on the Ministry's Vehicle Registration System computer database. This includes the production of information products (e.g., vehicle abstracts).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenarios
Is "Stolen" a vehicle brand?
No, "Stolen" is not a vehicle brand. "Stolen" is the status of the vehicle and can only be removed when the ministry is advised by the police that the vehicle has been recovered.
