car is FILTHY, but its too damn cold!

My car looks white. its covered with salt and crap. I hate it...

but i dont think it would be a good idea to take it to a touchless.. im thinkin everthing would freeze instantly.

(coin op is trully out of the question)

fack! what to do?!:banghead:

cibs 10-Jan-2004 03:27 PM

coin op is never out of the question... just how many layers of clothes you want to wear to it...

imported_dmacbo 10-Jan-2004 04:24 PM

its winter, everyones car looks like ****, who cares

Notorious 10-Jan-2004 04:25 PM

I went for a car wash yesterday, when I got home and got out of the car, it had frozen water droplet everywhere.

6 Hours later, I got to open the doors, the locks are frozen shut! But theres nothing a hair dryer can't solve, not sure if there locked atm, been well over 12 hours now.

Im never washing it at -36 ever again.

Toxic 10-Jan-2004 04:29 PM

coin op is out cuz i cant imagine having to dry the car after...

i know everyones cars look like ****, but Id ratehr wash off all the roadgrime and salt !

Notorious: tahts what IM talkin about... bad news...

Notorious 10-Jan-2004 04:36 PM

The locks seem fine now.

Toxic 10-Jan-2004 04:46 PM

did you go coinop or touchfree?

Notorious 10-Jan-2004 04:53 PM

Touch free, I paid my 8.00, well worth it since it was freezing. But next time, im gonna do it when its not as cold.

Legacy73 10-Jan-2004 05:23 PM

I washed mine today at the coin-op and the water was freeezing as a washed it. I missed a few spots but that's OK cause it's gonna snow tommorrow anyway.

At least my car is black again not white.

We have a coin-op here where for $8 you get 23 mins worth of time. It's sweet. Can actually take your time and not rush and have water spraying all over you in a frantic rush to get it washed in 3 mins.

i was going to go wash my car at the coin up but once i pulled in and got out of the car i jumped right back in and said forget it. too cold to be outside washing cars. times like this i wish i could go through the touchless car wash but my car is too low to drive in.

The G2 Racer 10-Jan-2004 06:27 PM

Fug the cold. I once washed and shamied my old hatch in this crap. Suck it up a bit. Just had to jump in my car to warm up a bit.

Also hit Crappy T and get some lock deicer in the small bottles, works great and is under $1 a bottle.

This is a shot from of my car last year

A trick from my carfreak buddy who grew up in Northern Ontario.
Leave the doors ajar, closed but not shut, when washing in cold weather. It's water on the door seals that freezes them shut.

i didnt really read the thread but to the first few posts, me and my girl went to coin op last night at like midnight and washed her van and were going tonite to do my car hahaha, as the water hit the van it would basically freeze u just had to spend little more time to make sure the soap didnt freeze on the car as u were washing it off lol

bbarbulo 10-Jan-2004 09:47 PM

My car is in heated storage, I just washed it today from settling dust :)

Otherwise, I never wash my winter beaters... maybe once just before I sell them :p

simple...i go to the coin op...put the setting on wax and spray the car off with that nice hot hot water....it works very well...oh and of course..take the mats out and spray them tooo....

If you guys are willing to travel a bit, and I'm talking about the members who live in or around Markham, there's a Shell station at Kennedy just north of the 407ETR that has an indoor wash. Not coin operated, but there's an attendant and it's time dependant. Not sure of the prices tho.

There's also another indoor wash at Esso on the corner of Yonge and Steeles. But I don't know if they leave the bay door open while you're inside.

Just a couple suggestions for y'all.
