car auctions/ salvage cars

Does anybody now and car auctions or a place that sells salvage cars, my friend is looking for a newer car and wouldn't mind buying a wrecked car and fixing it, if you know of any let me know.

U GOTTA BE CAreful with that ****, Ive seen video where even if the frame looks ok when put up to a crash thest those things just fold completely, Scary ****

I work for Auto Auctions and our Impact division has those kinds of vehicles but i wouldn't suggest it.

however, accident repair doesn't necessarily mean the car is going to crumple. like deviant sol says, you have to be wary of structural damage to the frame. I mean, we declare structural damage on all vehicles that have had non weld hitches installed and removed.

If you have a friend who's a dealer, I'm sure they can get you a decent newer car for a good price. I just bought my 03 Maxima SE Sport for 25% lower than most autotrader/classified prices. Don't sacrifice safety, you can still get a good deal at the normal auto auctions!

Don't salvage cars need to pass a special safety inspection afterwards. All the part and work must have receipts, etc?

You need a structual inspection to see if the work completed is good and that all parts that needed to be replaced were replaced. Also you need to have receipts for all the new parts. The problem with this is that there are people that will just pass the structual safety for a vehicle without too much regard for its actual safety if they are given some extra money.

Not to mention many insurance companies will not insure salvage rebuilt cars, or will increase the premium significantly because of it.

Theres a really stringent checkup the cars have to go through once theyve been repaired. There are adittional fees you have to pay once youve picked one up from an auction. My Uncle pickes up hondas and fixes them up to a saleable state, and most of them are decent cars. Both my aunts previous integras were auction cars they bought for dirts, and she drove the first one for YEARS! PM me if your interested, and I'll pass you his number. theve usually got quite a few for sale on their lot, and the price inst firm. Most of them arent perfect, but theyre cheap:thumbup:

look on autotrader.ca once in a while they have a wrecked car on there. it all depends on what you are looking for. a couple years ago i was close to buying a s2k for under $10k that only needed a bumper, hood, headlights and driver's side quarterpanel. frame and everything else was fine.
