Cant figure out how to take shifter **** off..

I got a 90 civic hatch and cant figure out how to take the shifter **** off. Im not used to civics. there is no screw or anything that i can see that holds it on. Do i have to remove the center consol or anything just to take it off? I have a shifter shifter and **** i want to install.

Unless I'm stupid, I'm assuming it's a stick shift you're looking at.

You should be able to simply unscrew the **** right off. You shouldn't have to resort to removing the console just to get the **** off. I'm pretty sure it's just a simple lefty-loosey unscrew...

But really what do I know, I'm just runnning a slushbox lol

IT should be able to screw right off... someone must've really given it a good tightening... if you're not too concerned with marking it up, you could always take a monkey wrench and just keep turning lol

Not sure what else to say...

sometime it is on very tight as its been on there for a while, what I do is turn it to the right a little bit and then twist it left to loosen it.

i agree tighten it a little then start loosing it off to the left. it might be a lil stuck but will come off eventually.

use a torch to heat it up then directly place your hand on it after you torch it to get maximum effect and strength to get it off

if you don't have access to a torch, use matches.

Turning counter-clockwise?
Pliers probably won't go around the ****.
Channel-locks will, also, wrap the **** with a towel that you've doubled up so that the teeth of the pliers/channel-locks don't damage the ****.
Don't forget to top up the **** fluid while you have it off...

you can adjust the pliers.. you don't need to keep spinning the **** with the pliers attached to it.

Pliers will easily take a shiftknob off. Channel-locks would work too
