Canada's most stolen vehicles

The Canadian data was compiled by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, which obtained data from Canadian insurance companies. The IBC's list provides data of the most stolen and least stolen vehicles in Canada for this year.

Look at #4 on the list...95 dodge caravan....why the heck are people stealing those?

Anyone have an explanation for that?

Look at the years of the most often stolen cars in general. Newer cars are coming with immobilizers and higher-tech ignition keys, and that makes it a lot harder for some amateur joyrider to defeat steering and ignition interlocks to drive off in them. With many older cars, all you need is a slide-hammer and a screwdriver and about 15 seconds to driver off in one of them.

Older Dodge Caravans are great targets because there are so many of them out on the roads. That makes stolen Caravans valuable as a source of used parts. There's also a bit of demand for "borrowed" Caravans by thieves looking for an untraceable vehicle with which to make off with stolen motorcycles or larger home electronics.

Like FiveO said... easy to steal and common as dirt. My aunt had one a few years ago and it was stolen several times. She always got it back basically undamaged minus ignition or window damage. The cops always told her that thieves used them for getaway vehicles then ditched it when they were done. They can hold alot of stuff from a B&E.

I'm curious as to why Chevy/GMC full sized trucks are missing from the list. They are the #1 stolen vehilce around here. So much so that the Hamilton Police created a unit just to attempt to stop it.

I wonder if, when they say Dodge Neon, they also mean the Dodge 2.0 SX or whatever the Neon has been renamed to.
