Calling all EK owners/experts

yeah luka for body work, using a magnet usually aaplies more to older cars cuzz due tot here age most ppl jsut fix the rust witrh bondo etc, but still ya never know with newer cars either, just to make sure its all good etc, iv seen shops that take a beat car, slap some bondo and some paint to fix an area then sell it and a few months later u find out. better yet bring me with u wen u go to look at some cars.....wink,wink...two sets of eyes r more prone to find problems etc then 1.

the major place to check for rust is right underneath the rear wiper, if it has one of course. eks are still too young (for the most part) to have rust unless its just surface rust, which isn't bad to fix. but the rear wiper is the place to check, as most ek hatches ive looked at with one were beginning to show signs of rust.
and the magnet is to check if there is any bondo on the car, it won't stick to the panels as well if the area has bondo.

get one w/ no accidents, even if you have to pay a little extra, and get one with full service history!!! there are no "bad" years for EKs, as we all know they are the last and best step in Civic evolution. one thing to be aware of is most hatches are automatic, and also... the manual trannies seem to die pretty quick... prolly cuz of the way ppl drive them. 99 seems to have had a bad batch of pilot bearings in the tranny or something.

I agree with Bruno. I had my tranny rebuilt under warranty when I first got my car. I have 142,000k's on the car and no problems or rust. Try to find one from a Honda dealer. You'll get the Honda Certified Used Car Warranty and they will have the service history for it hopefully.

I love this car. I know I am still somewhat new to the boards. I have owned my 98 hatchback for almost 2 years and love it. However I have a new project waiting for me. I personally like the older front end looks nice withe the type r style kit. Although I had the ultra rare OEM front lip. The interior is slightly different radio/hvac controls (mentioned above.)
Overall great candidate for a swap (my cx model). You do sit higher compared to a 4th gen but easy fics w/some GSR clothes. CX model doesnt bother me never had power options in any of my cars so Im not missing anything (3rd car and Im 26 sad eh? )
pm me for more info I am actually selling the car!

Your int he same boat as me. Im looking for an EK hatch right now.
These are the things that draw me back from getting one:
No PW
No PL
No P-Moonroof
No Cruise (I believe)
Those are the minor drawbacks. The car is way too damn slow, a swap must be put in place asap unless you get an Si, they're a bit quicker. Then the rest, suspension, all red tails, seats, etc just to make it look and feel half decent.
btw a lot of this **** is bolt on which is the best about the ek's, like engine swaps, seat swaps, sir front ends, suspension, etc
Another thing I noticed as well, way to many auto hatches and when you do find a manual it probably doesen't have a/c. Im pretty sick of a non a/c car so there's no shot im buying an ek without it.
Most have really high K, so you have to fork out at least 8-9 grand for something in the low 100K level when you can buy an si for the same price (imo not worth it). Only way I would pay for a hatch with low 100k is if it's under 6-7 grand b/c it's not worth the money when you compare them to fully loaded integras and si's.
Then the rust, I have taken a look at many 96-97 hatches and the second I see that rust im gone. Majorly the quarter panels. I've never witnessed any rust spots on any other panels on the car but a lot of ek's are rust free.
Anyway gl with the search

I don't care about any power options though and I'm sure it's gonna be better then my falling apart 89 civic. And I do plan on doing swap/suspension so speed isn't a concern. I've also found one with less then 100k for $8000. Gonna go test drive it.
#38
If you're doing a swap/suspension then you might consider looking at high mileage cars and using the saved money on changing all the worn parts. You'll have a newish drivetrain and suspension components so swap in some seats, carpet and you wouldn't be able to tell.

All these power option are easily installed if ever needed. People who buy hatch are most likely going to mod it, one way or the other. There is a reason why Honda uses hatches as their CTR car - whatever the reason is.
Our club can use more 6th gen hatches, join us Luka, join us!

It makes sense about the higher mileage and saving the rest for everything else...but think about it if the car only has 65k to begin with how much of it can be worn to the point of replacement? I also want to get decent mileage incase I back out on the swap (i also drive a lot).
