Buying USED!

an 88 CRX, what should i look out for?
i know about the rust, but other than that
what else?

imported_Hybridtheory 15-Jan-2003 01:39 PM

the usual rust....

sunroof ( if it has one ) odds are it will open.... but wont close without some help

climate control unit.... typical problem part with crx's and are pretty hard to find in good condition

i dont know too much about what to look for with a stock crx engine.... so ill let someone else take care of that

hatch pistons, another problem part with crx's

see how badly the hatch rattles

hmmm....

is it all stock?

or are there any after market parts on it?

imported_My Blue Si 15-Jan-2003 06:23 PM

^^ agreed, if the car has low kilometers I would go threw the ministry to find out how many kilometres it had with the previous owner. Sunroor, usual rust , check out the floors *that should be the main thing to check out* Thats about it, b/c any other parts like motor parts, interior and even exterior pieces are quite easy to find for a very low cost.

Check the floors most diffinately. My friend's sister was going to buy a CRX, mint on the out side. Put her leg in to sit down and it went through the floor.

imported_Joker 15-Jan-2003 07:45 PM

same applies for an eg hatch?
lets say 1992 si?

imported_dmacbo 15-Jan-2003 07:49 PM

i looked at probably a good 15-20 crx's before i even bought mine, take a good look over all them, take a magnet

imported_Joker 15-Jan-2003 07:52 PM

magnet for what?

imported_dmacbo 15-Jan-2003 07:56 PM

check to see if the car is pure bondo or not

mechatune 15-Jan-2003 08:12 PM

underbody

jack it up, go w/ a mechanic and check the underbody
check the whole frame for rust, bends etc

speedracer 15-Jan-2003 08:27 PM

check the motor, thats most important

SilverCRXSi 16-Jan-2003 10:37 AM

Magnets are your friend...
If you can take it to a mechanic. The floors are bad on the 1st gens, not so bad on the 2nd gens though , but still be cautious.

Check to see that the motor doesn't burn oil badly.

Just be patient. Good luck.

The G2 Racer 16-Jan-2003 11:58 AM

Joker: The EGs shouldn't have rusty floors. My DX is a 92, 11 years old and the only rust is on the rear quater panels (wheel wells) and it minimal. Under the car, only one little bracket is rusted. I've yet to hear about EG floors rusting out, just the quater panels around the wheel wells but that typical honda rot.

SilverCRXSi 16-Jan-2003 04:16 PM

I wonder if the 6th gens have rust on the rear quarter wells?

BTW I meant 1st and 2nd gen CRX's.

AzimuthX 16-Jan-2003 08:32 PM

If you bring a magnet, what do you do with it?

The G2 Racer 16-Jan-2003 08:47 PM

Put it up to the body panels to see if they are metal or not.

AzimuthX 16-Jan-2003 08:51 PM

Bondo - Will not attract
Normal Body - Will?

SilverCRXSi 16-Jan-2003 11:58 PM

Yeppers, You Got It!

Magnet won't stick on Bondo!
