Buying car from states

Hey guys,

I am planning on purchasing a used car from the US and was wondering where to begin looking for information regarding the process of transfering the car over to canada and getting it registered.

Is there a specific canadian government website that covers what needs to be done?

any help would be appreciated. :shakehands: thanks.

Do a search for an article I believe either CBC or one of the newspapers had, it may sound like a good idea, but be careful, a lot of the Canadian dealerships are not honoring warranties and some of the U.S. dealerships are not selling to Canadians. When I get into work tomorrow, I will get the link for you.

I would go to MTO and ask them in person.
I think the 6-7g's you save (on avg) should make up for the warranty issue.

It's more than just the warranty.

Here is the article I was talking about

Just some info about it recently two family frineds purchased cars in the states one bought a Nissan Murano from buffalo saving 12 g's after all was said and done Canadian dealerships wont cover warranty but 12g's to drive to buffalo for them to fix no so bad , another purchased a subaru leagy top of the line not sure model type saving close to 15 g's and was told that any bill Canadian dealership wont cover subaru america will. Also both tried to purhcase cars from lexus and buick but would not sell at all to a Canadian buyer so just a heads up there are deals to be had you jsut need to look and have a range of what you want to buy and no be limited to one or two cars

i brought in my saturn from Virginia. it's pretty easy

DumbasSi 05-Nov-2007 08:26 PM

A used car can be very easy, but a new car I'm not too sure. From the articles mentioned above, most US dealers are not allowed to sell the Canadian citizens.

There was an article about this printed up on my Company's intranet website. It was complete with different websites. Apparently someone bought a brand new 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe from I believe it was Buffalo and drove it back here. If I can find the article tomorrow I will find the links.

If you go to an MTO office.
They have a panflit that explains everything that you need to know about importing a car from the US.
I'm there pretty well every day.
And have read the same thing well over 30 times.

Go to an MTO.
Look for it.
Read it...
Know it.

Do you even know what a speedometer looks like on an 06+ Civic? Just look at one and quickly think about it.

Civic coupe according to Honda.com is $14800
Civic coupe according to Honda.ca is $17190

Not really saving a lot and you lose your warranty.
