Buying a car in the states
#2
For new cars, an article I read in the Star said that they aren't unless you move (not just buy and bring it back over). But might as well ask the dealer about the specific warranty you are dealing with, because it might vary.
They said an option to pursue for a warranty would be to get a third party one.

I don't know if anyone here has done what you're proposing, so noone knows FOR SURE unless they've done it themselves.
From what i've heard it IS NOT valid because Honda Canada and Honda America for example are two seperate corporations under the Honda Umbrella... if you want warranty work you'd have to drive back to the states.

My dad was looking at buying a Solstice. The dealers are bringing a bunch over from the States becuase they are cheaper, then selling them here, in Canada. He said the dealer said the warranty would not be valid in Canada. Again, not sure if it is vehicle specific but that's the case he came across.

only if you move to the states, or move here and provide all the documentation. Simply purchasing a car there and bring it over or vice versa will not let you qualify for this.
do you have a scan of said page in your owners manual?

Here is my question, though. How would Honda Canada know that the car was purchased in the States, unless it was a make/model/colour that was not available in Canada? Would the VIN tell Honda Canada that, and what if the car is manufactured in Canada to begin with, then what?

VIN and serial number tells it all!
in fact, your cluster would be in MILES, not KM haha =)

As far as the cluster goes, I totally disagree with you. 2006 Civics have a digital cluster that is switched between miles and kilometers by the touch of a button, so how can the cluster be only in miles?

Digital clusters can change easily but analog ones have mph in big numbers in the States with kph numbers being smaller just like the Canadian cars have kph numbers bigger than mph.
VIN does tell which market the car is for. There is no real easy way to tell which number gives it away but someone at Honda Canada would be able to find out. (of course, provided the VIN is real).
