Post Buyin a new civic

Okay guys i got a stupid question.. I saw this car on autotrader.

00 Civic Si

it was nice and everything ... the clustor read SiR.. i asked him if it was an sir he's like the prev. owner did a SiR conversation .. n'ways it was a Vtec engine and had power window power locks sunroof Everything powered ...

So i 'm like okay i do a CarFAX it turns out it's an
Honda Civic LX-SE ..
mmm.. i'm lost on that my friends are saying since it's an SE model it's the owner's choice of wut to have in the car..

I mean is that possible to have all the upgrade as an Si or did the prev. owner change everything?
cuz this owner didn't know anything ..

anyways thanks in advance for your help

Engine code should be on the engine block. Will shed some light on the subject more.

Just locate the code on the left side of the engine block and see if it is D16Y7 (106 hp non-VTEC SOHC) or D16Y8 (127 hp SOHC VTEC).

This car is sounding "fishy". If CarFax is saying it is an LX-SE, I don't think it would be wrong. With that being said, I don't think anyone would go through the trouble of making an LX into an Si. It doesn't make sense.

In the VIN, what are the 4th to 10th characters/digits? The 4th and 5th should be E and J. Then what comes after that? If it is an Si, it should be an 8. If not, then, I would look for VIN stickers on body panels to make sure all the VINs match.

I don't know how much the person is asking for the car but remember....

"If the deal sounds too good to be true, then its probably a SCAM".

Just my $0.02.

It could be anyone of these...
Copy down the entire VIN number. It can tell you where the car was made and everything.

EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA All 2-door DX/Si
EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA 2000 2-door DX-G
EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA 1996-1998 3-door CX/CX-G
EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA 1999-2000 3-door CX/DX
EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA 2000 3-door SE
EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA All 4-door LX/EX
EJ6 D16Y7 USDM All 3-door CX/DX
EJ6 D16Y7 USDM All 4-door DX/LX
EJ6 D16Y7 USDM 1999 4-door DX-V

96-00 Canadian Si coupe = EJ8 D16Y8.

Do you mean SE coupe?

This car sounds funny dude. Did the report show anything about the car being into an accident?

With my search for an si-r, i found 4 cars that were either insurance write-offs. The cluster was changed, been into a major accident, etc.

One car was actually written off in Flordia and was in the junk yard, the guy brung it up to Ontario, painted it fixed everything and was selling it for 12,000$. I almost bought the ****ing thing to.

Thank god for carfax.

I just dug up that info from the archives, so it might not be totally accurate. I wouldn't even bother buying it if there is some confusion as to it's history. There are tons of other Civic Si's for sale, so just keep looking.

You know whats more strange guys

I read this in the CarFAX (Where it has all the prev. owner/ activities done to the car):
12/16/2004 67,465 Auto Auction
Sold at auction in
Canada
Listed as a
salvage vehicle
Odometer reported as 108,575 kilometers

But above it says (The OK List):

No Salvage Auction Record Reported
No Crash Test Vehicle Record Reported
No Fire Damage Record Reported
No Airbag Deployment Record Reported
No Frame Damage Record Reported
No Damage Disclosure Record Reported
No Police Accident Record Reported
No Collision Repair Facility Record Reported

SO confusing..
