Buy a car modded? or no?

I might be in the mood to buy a car this summer for school next year. Soemthing like a CRX in good condition, to get me to and from school. I can spend around 6g on it, but the more I spend, the more I got to pay back my parents for it.

I was wondering if I spend the 6g now on a crx thats all done up and pay them back, or buy a crx for like 3-4g then save the money and use the rest towards college and do mods along the way.

Whats the best way to go?

i personally wouldnt buy a modded car for a couple of reasons. first, someone who mods their car is more likely to drive it hard. second, it's less fun when you dont get to choose your own mods and do it yourself. i'd save some money and get a stock car. then u'll have cash for college and more mods in the future.

STOCK STOCK STOCK!!!

Now, why a crx? If you have 6 grand, you can easily buy a 5th generation CX in a lot better condition than most crx's out there. Even though both cars are rusting most likely. Say get a 92-95 CX absolutely stock and take it from there.

Buying a modded car isn't a bad idea. As long as the condition is fine, and it comes with what you want. There's no point in paying extra for something you'll take off.

Most decent CRX's go for about upwards of $3000, and you'll probably want to spend a bit more to get everything running properly. A clean body is key, because anything else can be fixed.

personally i wouldn't buy a modded car...

but i guess it depends how modded it is...
maybe u should buy the modded car, sell the mods that u don't want, and then put that $ towards college or other mods??

I don't see why not?

If the car is in good shape, not involved any big accident, reasonable limited rust. Comes with the mods you want.
like the bolt-ons, rims and suspensions. Maybe it will only cost you around $1000 more than a stock one, why not?

You might think guys with modded car will drive like a manic.
Amount my friends, with modded cars. We all take extremely good care of our cars. Oil change prematurely, car wash, wax and clean all the time. No rain, no snow with some crazy dudes.

Compare the price.
Compare the car condition.
Put everything into consideration then make your own decision.

I personally wouldn't mind some bolt-on mods if the price is reasonable.

The key is, does the previously owner love that car?

If there's any kind of engine mods what so ever...I say NO!

However, if it's only rims, springs/shocks, and skirts, then sure. Go ahead, but make sure you know what kind of springs/shocks it has.

No, not preferably.. I'd rather go stock.

As been said, most people that mod them are going to abuse them at some sort of time or the other, plus modded cars are either over priced or likley having trouble.

Plus, modding the car is just MY thing.. I wouldn't want to claim someone elses artwork, same as someone elses car. Its like wearing someone elses broke in shoes that don't nessicarily reflect your personal style/taste.

But if he's planning to do some work on it, then why not just pick up an 89 crx or something, that has been lowered, and maybe some side skirts (buyers preference). Even though that car may be beatin to ****, just throw out that stock engine for a B series.

How much is a crx that's lowered? 4 grand? Maybe 5? You might be able to find one for 3 grand with high milage.

Then he can purchase my brothers 92 B18 for less than a grand complete, minus the mounts and flywheel (install not included).

Voila....including install of the motor on a crx with high milage which was already lowered for just under 6 grand.

That just might be a problem for you to get those cars insured.

I recently changed my insurance company. They asked me to go to a place and do a "safety check". What they did was take some pictures of my car. List out all the mods I have. Stereo, body, engine, etc....

Then I ask, what if I put an integra engine on it, legal?
The guy said, "if you put an integra engine on it, the rate will be extremely high. Don't think it will just count as an integra. It is LEGAL for you to drive that car on the road. But it is same as driving a car without insurance. Most other mods are ok, but engine is a big no-no"

That's what happened to ME with this new insurance company. Not sure about others.

The last part of that ad sounds like it's from The Collection of Fine Cars. They seem to love using words like that. It's just something I've noticed about their ads.

I still say no to cars that have modded engines.

I personally wouldn't want to buy a car that's moded for the same reasons mentioned by SiR-Racer. If you buy a modded car you're basically buying the work of someone else and not your own.

YES or NO to modded cars....?

It really depends on each individual car and what application you're looking to use it for.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both...

With a stock car, you know that its going to pass emissions and safety no problem, which is a really big issue when you're switching the ownership to your name.

It would really suck in you managed to find a cherry B16A motor in a 92 hatch for a great price only to lay down the dollars and not be able to pass emissions.

With a modded car you might get a few things like a cool shift ***, shortened shifter or a race wheel... Maybe it already has rims that you like.

Aside, if you have a specific vision for your car, chances are you're going to swap out parts for other parts, and you can always sell those aftermarket parts that you take off.

I have a friend who has done a beauty of a job on his car, and it would be a fantastic car to own. He rarely opens her up, and his car was more of a project of love rather to go out look fancy and race other dudes...

So the real questions you should ask, do you know what you want in a car, do you know what to look for in a used car...

Outside of that you should be okay....

If you're going to buy a used car, make sure it has its emissions papers

IMHO...... NO to modded cars...

Spend the time, effort and brain power to buying a stock car and making it look nice or perform nice yourself.

Spending the cash to get an already max'd out ride that someone else put their blood sweat and tears into is kinda lame in my opinion and it will NEVER truely be your car, it will always be the pride and joy of the previous owner.

Besides, any idiot can buy a fast moving car that someone else built up, but to built it up yourself, picking and choosing your components, kinda bonds you to that car...

I know I know its silly but thats the way I feel bout it.

Regards,
OK
