agreed, but I'm sure if they stepped in and said... hey, we have bigger problems than street racers, EX: gun control, people would listen... instead they sit back and say "yah.. those damn hooligans"

The media for sure pushs issues and makes them bigger than they are, but in the end, the police are the ones that deal with the problems. They carry a lot more wieght than you give them credit for.

you guys can't re-direct attention from one wrong to the other. you can't say, well don't look at me while I'm doing something wrong... look over there instead, he's doing something worse than me!! instead... just don't do wrong, and the attention will go away.

^^ hahaha, thats exactly what I thought was going to happen. Its called psychology and the stupid politicians have failed it. before, anything over 100 was illegal in average people's minds, now, anything under 145 seems just fine!

ps. 50 over has always been considered a serious offense, its nothing new, its just the media that creates all the fuss

im not justifying driving 150.. it is wrong and u deserve to get the book thrown at you if your caught. im saying that there are bigger issues that they ignore....

probably cause they can't make money off them (like not addressing the amount of bicyclists that get killed cause they fail to wear a helmet).

Think about it... car speeding = $5000 fine, $40 day at the inpound, no chance of trial.

bicyclist not wearing helmet = NO LAW, therefore... oh well.....

I'm sorry i keep going back to the helmet thing, but i've known 2 people who have been struck by cars and died not wearing lids... why cause they don't have to..... i just don't understand why they can't make a law regarding it

anyone have any ideas

hoyl $hit, I was ont eh 400 today driving from barrie the major mack and back and I have never seen so many cops in my life. Each one was mated with a tow truck and I counted 3 cars being towed on the way down and on the way back to barrie only one as it was stop and go traffic. The service station between major mack and king had at least 5 cop cars, 5 ministry cars and too many tow trucks I coudn't count.
I understand the law but this is a bit much IMO

All of this is bull****....what a horrible idea.....do you know how many people have died from speeding alone in the past year, I remember reading an article in the star a while ago and it was some rediculously low number, like 20 or something like that...... but that's not my point, my point is....

why are they concerned with people going 50km/h over? I see that all the time on the highway, all this will do is put more money in our government's pocket.... BUT on the streets hell yes it makes sense! But what about those driving under the influence? what about those street racing? what about the drugs, and gun violence? I can walk down the street and get a gun for 50 bucks if i wanted to........

I follow the street rules and everything man, and when i'm on the highway i obviously like to punch it every now and then, but when no one's around or it's safe, i'm always looking around and far ahead if there is traffic then ok, slow down and everything's good you know...... but say that point in time i get unlucky......it's over you know.....

I feel the G1 and G2 system should be continued further and assess drivers' skill levels.... but that's not to say a higher skill level justifies speeding, i'm just saying if drivers are more aware, trained and prepared...and retards are off the road then police can rest easy or at least "easier" and focus on more serious issues.....

Honestly I wish we never had speed limits on the highway....... aahhhh but I digress

I have to say this new law though it doesnt make much sense, doesnt really matter.

First off, it is definitely a political ploy that benefits the liberals, with spill over benefit is to society. Speeding 50 over has now been incorrectly named street racing. My only problem is the name of the offence. The new penalty for doing 50 over is fine with me.

You shouldnt be doing 50 over the limit, and if you are you deserve for your car to be impounded. Im not looking to get hit by some guy thinking he is so skilled that he can maneuver in and out of traffic at high speeds. These people think that they are skilled and can manage these speeds, and for the people who really can manage those speeds, we cant have exclusive law for a group of people.

And for all those who say focus in DUI and murder. Why cant we focus on all of them, including high speed driving. We do have the RIDE program, we do have homocide squads. And now they're focusing on high speed and wreckless driving. There's nothing wrong with that.

BOTTOM LINE
Everyone has their own agenda
if some guy doing 179km/h hit your mother and killer her(knock on wood), your new agenda would be wreckless ppl speeding. And you would appreciate a law that would have impounded that guys car before he could do that to someone. Whether its called street racing or speeding, the penalty is the same and I agree with the penalty. Forget why the liberals did it.

Where can you buy a gun for 50$ because that's like a 400$ bargain. Besides i think the whole 50 km over thing is aimed to stop street racing so i ain't sure why you think they're not targeting street racers.

yeah man $50 bucks..... I have some dangerous friends lol

meh..... but most of the people they have pulled over haven't been "street racers," just plain old "stupid drivers"...... yeah vinothm i read your points and they make sense.... I'm just very claustrophobic to rules so I may have gone on a bit of a rant.......... in terms of focusing on all..... you know what you may be right, I just feel this is standing out as if its the MOST important issue.....probably because its "new" and you know how the media is with "new"

I pretty much agree with all your points i was just thinking out loud........ why can't we have exclusive law, a new licensing system would be awesome.....lol...... I'm NO debater.....I just like to ploy ideas......

People die, accidents happen.. that's a fact of life. However, the government's job is to take care of what is more important.. I am sure there are people's family who have been killed by people who talk on their cell phones. Why don't we hire a bunch of cops, send 10 helicopters to monitor traffic 24/7 and impound those guys who even have a cell phone in the car but not even "caught" talking on them?

The point is, 50-over speeders are not the real cause of major accidents that contribute to the deaths per year we are seeing. You can't deny statistics when "street racers" or 50-over speeding doesn't even stack up to regular **** like people on cell phones or people falling asleep behind the wheel. What we are getting now is a waste of money, all media hype, political wars of "trying to find the next hot topic" and grab attention; basically, focusing on something easily recognized by public but yet unimportant. Sure there is a recent increase of speed/racing related accidents... No kidding, everything is on the f*cking rise this year... Homocide has been the highest for this year. I bet I can drive my car with a dead body in my trunk and I can drive by a cop with no problems as long as I stay within the speed limits and drive a stock Corolla. All I need is any Civic or any car with a muffler and the cops would be all over it like house flies over a piece of dog crap...

I'm against regulations of any kind. if you want to die not wearing a helmet, then so be it, it should be your choice. by the same logic, if you don't want to wear a seatbelt, then don't. if you want to go 458 km/hr down 401, then do so. I don't care and neither should the gov't.

i frequent this other forum about motorcycles. people on there have talked about running.
face it
no fck way is a police crown vic gonna match up against r1 or 1000rr. these bike could go from 150kph to over 250 in under 10secs and exit over and hide in the bushes.

I doubt an R1 would out run a radio.

Easily... Way too many times that police can' even radio in on the bike's location. Once the bike goes out of sight, I doubt there are 5 cops on every corner.

The only thing a bike can't outrun is a police chopper. I would just ride right into the airport, and then figure something out from there...lol
