Don't mean to hijack this post.....
I have been driving on 3 wheels studs since spring...
Haven't replaced the stud because I was told by a good mechanic I know that you have to split the bearings....after looking at those DIY links...it appears that you do have to split the bearing.
My question is: Do you have to put in a new bearing if yu do this or will the old bearing be ok if you put it back together properly?
My fear is that I f* up the bearing and I'm stuck with a car I can't drive untill I buy a new bearing (about $90-$100).

I have a 2000 civic SiR coupe.
And I have tried to remove the broken stud without splitting the hub and there is no way...There's no cut out or special position or anything...have to split the hub...unless someone knows something I don't.....

When we did mine the grinded down the side of the old bolt so it had clearance.
Also use the grinder to make a little notch in order to cut the new stud in.
Only trouble we ran into was getting my brake rotor off because the screws were seized in there.
Whole process prolly only took like 30-45 min but im sure it can be done in much less

I've heard of grinding a notch in the spindal and grinding a flat in the new stud........but when it comes to fastening your wheel to the car.....I don't like to cut corners...
Mind you...one little flat on one wheel stud isn't nearly as bad as no wheel stud at all....LOL.
Thanks for the help guys
