break ins: what to do?

I'll try to compress this as best as I can:

I've heard many times from my friends that GO parking lots are easy pickings for thieves. I was highly discouraged to leave my civic there basically unattended in a lot for 8 hours a day while I'm at work. Initially I was hesitant, but after a week or so, I noticed there were some cameras monitoring the lot and I spotted a few other modified cars there (accords, tiburons, etc.), so I started feeling a bit more comfortable about bringing my own car.

That brings us to today, not even 2 weeks later after I started bringing my own car to the GO station, I come back from work, and my car has been broken into, and all the audio equipment (deck, amp, sub) has been stolen. The rest of the car is still there, so this is not a stolen vehicle post.

My question is: Is anything recoverable or am I pretty much SOL? If I make a claim through insurance (Bel Air), will they ask for receipts of the audio equipment (valued LESS than $1500)? Will my premiums go up? etc.?

I'm sure people have had experience with break-ins into their car before, so any advice is appreciated. I've done a search for this but didn't come up with any useful information. Until then I'll be scouring the local forums for my audio equipment.. ***holes.

Had my EG broken into 3 times back in 1997, 1999, and 2000. Once right from the driveway. All 3 occurances had my stereo equipment gone. I took pictures of it along with receipts and was covered through car insurance. Same company for all 3 times. Because I was with them for 8 years, no questions asked.

Yeah, I thought I was safe out here in the burbs too! When I went to talk to the GO personnel, they told me I wasn't the only one that had been jacked THAT DAY! I don't want to list my mods here (you can PM me for details), but my car is no show car, its not very done up. Its got minimal mods, mostly cosmetic.

Did they ask for any receipts? I bought most of my audio equipment used from here on the TCC classifieds, and I never ask for/received any receipts. Will this be a problem if I'm claiming less than $1500?

Any more advice is appreciated

if your insurance co. is not aware of any mods you did to your car, they simply dont exist for them

Exclamation

^^^ ooorrr... so you can learn how to do it for yourself?

Part of the reason I rarely go to massive car meets anymore with my (formerly) heavily modded Gen1 (which was also broken into 3x) is because they can be scouting grounds for thieves.

A couple of these ****** just canvass the lot, walk up to your car, start chatting with you & seem friendly enough.

They soon find out what you've put into your car & what area of town you're from... and they're set.

A few weeks to months later, you're & they're

Yea they did ask for receipts, and i had all of them. If you got stuff use, call the person you got the stuff from and ask them if you can give your insurance company there phone number, so that your insurance company can call them and can comform that you got your stuff from this person for that price.

You can't really prevent thieves from breaking into your car. If they want to take it/break into, they'll find a way. The best prevention you're talking about is leave it at home. Even that is uncertain like myself.

you mean heavily assesoried car, modded cars are fast & not pretty from the inside.

i have never had a jacking problem, because everything is under the hood.lol

people over exaggerate when their **** is jacked into, 90% of the time the theives only take the deck & subs or speakers, and maybe a shifter **** if they have time, i mean why do people watse money on some thing that is useless and thief attractive.

seriously i think the tuner scene is not for show cars. it started with tuned cars not rice hardparking.

some ppl like their music ... cant blame them for putting an expensive system in....saying a system is useless cuz it can be stolen is like saying ur mods under ur hood is useless cuz u cant go 50 over the speed limit (well u can but with stiff penalties if u get caught)

i agree with you that people like the music, and so do i but i don't have a crazy expensive system that is just plain show off with the loud bass, im not def, so i have a decent just little above stock deck and speakers, and the sound is clear lound and good enough and its not expensive either,jvc/kenwood, plus i rather listen to the engine.

slow car and all show is Rice. so is a music system much to big and expensive for the ears, where as having fun and adrenalin with a faster car can only make you smile and not def.

Lol. Both times my Oakley's went missing during break-ins from my car. Once from the glove box and once from hanging from the rear view.

Do they not make stereo decks these days with a code so it makes it useless when re-installed into another vehicle?

yes and heres a whole list of all your fast cars you have....

-It got waxed in my 350Z TT
-porsche
-2000 impala
-had a turbo 89 accord in 1999
-my next two cars were EF H/B
-i bought a B13, slowly worked on it for a while got it prestine oem, and notthing more, decided to go J-body for my next project.
-thinking of turning our montana into a pickup, with 20X10 deep dish mesh gold volks in the rear with negative camber and polishd lips, and 19x9.5 in the front with a nice drop too, add a T88TT swap with a 2006 GXP motor, that would be about 1600hp, fully built internals, and for the tranny, add the GXP paddle shift.
