boosted sohc glory stories?
ok if you have a boosted d series sohc, please fill me in...are they really fast/fun to drive
if you have any unforgettable stories about owning people with your boosted sohc, like what type of cars you raced (not on the streets of course.....) and how it happened etc.
reason for this thread... I swapped in a jdm d15b and i plan on boosting it and im excited to hear what may be waiting ahead plus i thought it would be cool to hear from fellow sohc'er, because D's seem to be a dying breed

Sohcs are very fun. They are the under dog motor. Many sohc vtecs can make 250+/-whp with no issues, as long as the right parts are used and you have a GOOD tune. I have had a few sohc vtecs on boost in the past, the last sohc I had was @ 10 psi making 250whp and 202wtq. It was stock with a few goodies ( zex cam, adj. gear, etc ) Bone stock block though. Many ppl have had the same success +/-. I think the avg. Boosted sohc is about 200whp-230whp, but quite a few have been in the 240whp-280whp range. In fact this summer we had a customer make 301whp (stock block) using our kit tuned on July 17 2009 and was daily driven and tracked until November no issues. There is a lot of good info on this site and other sites which are "d series" specific sites. If you need a hand in the boost adventure let us know.

I am going to turbo it but it kinda sucks cause i cant find any arftermarket internals for my jdm D15B vtec, so i guess ill boosted 10psi on the stock block and if shes dies find a d16z6 to fully build.

Ya most boosted SOHC VTEC's make around 200-220whp when trying to keep things safe. If you've seen how tiny the D-series connecting rods are you would understand why most people don't push the limits with them.
With a quality t3/t4 its not uncommon to see 220+whp under 10psi. The last one I did with a borg warner t3/t04b made 210whp 180wtq @ 8psi and it had a cheap ebay manifold and 2.5" exhaust.
In my opinion, the KEY is using quality parts (not $1000 turbo kits, like ebay ones) and gettin a solid tune. I've seen a bunch of the cheap kits not make such great power or last very long.
If you want to come by the shop, i'd be more than happy to show you the dyno sheets and setups i've done in the past, to help you select what parts you'd like to use.
