cibs 02-Oct-2006 10:01 AM

^^ LOL...

i think he means the ML, but seeing as he doesn't even know the name of it... he might have a hard time comparing the two...

czeto 02-Oct-2006 10:09 AM

I'd hit me BMW action. I've heard nothing but bad things about Mercedes reliability and customer service. But don't plan on using the X5 as an off road/towing vehicle either.

he might have a hard time comparing the two since this is a joke question and he is getting neither.

but to be fair, in case it is a serious question, get the ML500. you are getting an SUV for comfort (since no one uses them for offroading anyways), and i like the interior of the ML more so than that of the X5

cibs 02-Oct-2006 10:26 AM

^^ i would usually agree with you about ML > x5...

but personally i'd get neither i think... because i'm not a fan of the X5, and i thikn the ML looks waaay better, but my friend's mom picked up the new ML a few months ago and there's been nothing but problems with it the whole time... about 7 or 8 months she's had it and it's been in the shop 7 times....

Mercedes reliability *thumbsdown*...

imported_t_dot_SiR 02-Oct-2006 11:24 AM

neither to both... unless you're too bored in life and wanna seek some trouble, then get the ML...

i hate the x5

people who get ML's and X5's dont get for any other purpose but status anyways.

there are much better SUV's our there.

BMW makes amazing sports sedans, mercedes makes very comfortable luxury sedans, their other offerings are just there to fill the market.

Just out of curiousity, if you had to get an SUV, what would you suggest?

DumbasSi 02-Oct-2006 12:21 PM

A new Acura RDX or a Mazda CX-7. Personally I'd shy away from any large SUV and go for a smaller one or a crossover type vehicle.

As for the BMW vs MB question...
Neither. I would shop elsewhere for a Porsche Cayenne.

Double_B 02-Oct-2006 12:40 PM

Reason I was asking was, I probably will be buying an SUV in 2008. Second hand. This will be for the wife. I also have two kids, so I want the room. As of now we have a Montana that goes back to the dealer off a lease in 08. I am very much leaning towards a MDX. I think with the kids I want a little more room than the CRV or the RDX. Second hand MDX would be great as I believe the new gen will be out in 07? So prices for second hand one's should be reasonable in 08. The Pilot was the other option, but the wife likes the styling of the MDX better, so do I.

Not going to do any off roading, but the wife has had to endure driving two vans for 6 year and 2 more to go. I think after what I have done to the car, she should be able to get what she wants.

i have no use for an SUV, so I would get an escalade for the bling

if I had to tow and go off road, something from gm.. good value

I can tell ya, last thing my wife is gonna want is another GM vehicle. You are right, it's more of a status thing. Wife doesn't want the van anymore because she doesn't like the looks of a van or what the van symbolizes. So to be fair, I am willing to see about the SUV and go with that. I am happy with my car, so really it's for her.

i sympathize with you and i can admire your patience in the upcoming time while she is choosing an suv..

if the only reason to have an suv is "not to have a van", then there are no real criteria that need to be met, and it will be easy to make the wrong choice, since there really isn't a right choice

True enough. Personally, I would rather not get an SUV and get either a larger car than I have now or again another van. But like I said, it's her choice, she likes the feel of being higher on the road and she has always wanted one. Now she has the kids believing thats what we need! :banghead:

Oh well, when you live in a house and you are the only male, you lose everytime!

imported_mugenpowered 02-Oct-2006 11:39 PM

I haven't been in a Mercedes SUV, but I have been in the X5. I hear the 3.0 is underpowered. I was in the 4.4 and it had nice pick-up I can only imagine that the 4.8 is that much better. Interior is nothing amazing but comfy, leather everywhere, definitely nice.

There are a lot of other nice baller-status SUV's too. Denali, Escalade, Q65, Cayenne (preferably Turbo-S, lol)
The new Escalades seem pretty sick, and considering that they come with a 5 year warranty now, I wouldn't think that reliability would be as much of an issue as it was with the older Denali's and Escalades.

imported_viper_2_4 03-Oct-2006 04:56 PM

SUVs are stupid....buy a real car, unless you have to tow stuff.....

when I say SUVs I mean real ones, I don't consider the CRV or RAV4 or even RDX SUVs, well not in this sense atleast

imported_Shazza 03-Oct-2006 06:16 PM

i love the lexus ls but i'm guessing that's not in ur price range, brian. hehe.

imported_starboy869 03-Oct-2006 06:32 PM

I don't either are in his price range.

Look for the thread on the X5 catching fire by itself in the neighbours garage, theres no way i would risk burning my house down cus of that german POS. As for honda SUV theres no way id get that because hondas have bad auto trannies. Toyota 4 runner is first choice

imported_ERTW 04-Oct-2006 12:18 AM

haha.. german POS...obviously you have never driven anything other than a honda and think that an econobox is the be all, end all of cars

Yes i have driven many german cars. Would you drive a car (X5) that catches fire?

Have you looked at the resale values of different manufacturers? Why is toyota on top? And why are german cars (Audi etc) at the bottom with american cars? Simply because they are unreliable.

Sure that one spontaneously cumbusted, but that is the only incidence of that I have ever heard. And I am sure that if I searched hard enough I would find a Honda Pilot that did the same thing too.

The X5 is sick, it has as much chance of burning your house down, as you have spontaneously combusting while driving it. Plus will get you way more madd respect still y0!

German cars have more of a chance of it happening due to its electrical problems

http://autos.msn.com/advice/article.aspx?contentid=4022645

you can see bmw has one of the top resale values in the industry

a bmw is 400 times the car a honda or toyota will ever be, the few odd problems people experience are nothing in comparison

i have owend a 2003 3-series for 6 months now. i have not had a single problem. based on previous history of the vehicle, all it had were oil changes and factory scheduled inspections.

that is 3 years of reliable operation, no fires, no electrical problems

but wait.. in your idiotic opinion i should have been burned to death right now

DumbasSi 04-Oct-2006 09:33 PM

Play nice boys. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

would you like a tissue??

HAHAHA 3 years of reliability? A Yugo lasts that long without any problems whats your point? Just wait a few more years. I've had my car for 3 years now and gets the snot beaten outta it and still not a single problem, doesnt burn any oil and has almost 300k on the odo. While 3 of my friends, which had a 97 330, 95 740, and a 91 318 all of had big problems with electrical. Coincedence no? Mercedes are even worse for electrical and VW is up there with them. All of which ranging from dead shorts in the tail light assemblies to HUD going haywire.

imported_InfamousCivic 04-Oct-2006 11:46 PM

BMW - 3 letters the say everything.

The end.

Daimler Mercedez? Definitely a NO NO.

[1sL0CiviC] 11-Oct-2006 04:40 AM

2002 Audi A4
2002 CLK320
1993 300SEL
1996 SL500

All German cars, and the ONLY problem I ever had was 1 exhaust leak on the 96, and a MAF sensor gone bad on the CLK.

BTW, the cars are still kicking FINE.

bottom line...hondas suck
the only reason i drive one is because i cant afford to drive a better car

i love bimmers and benzes

cibs 11-Oct-2006 12:55 PM

hahaha yep hondas suck alright:rolleyes:... if price is your problem why don't you drive a kia or a ford??

you could easily get an older bimmer or benz with a few k...

what's holding you back then??

VTEC_Thunder 11-Oct-2006 04:16 PM

I could care less about either of these vehicles this post is about...

Just over-expensive gas-hogs for socker-moms....

I don't really like SUV's...especially ones that can't to squat off-road...(ie: the bmw's and benz's)

Waste of money IMO.

Don't get me wrong....I LOVE the newest M5 and the M3's....and the newer benz cars....etc...very nice!

But having driven the SUV's from both companies....They fell far short of my expectations for the amount of money you'd pay for one.......lame!

I'd much rather spend the money on a C6 ZO6 or similar...

lemme rephrase that...hondas are pretty bad, but civics suck.

i only own one because its the most feasable option for me right now. i didnt always think hondas sucked. i only realized that after owning one.

i wont make that mistake again.
