conflict of interest. on one hand, i disagree with the unjust nature of it. on the other hand, it's been ****ing a lot of people who deserve it and that's just fine with me if it means safer roads for something i invest a lot of money into purely for my own enjoyment.

Not going to sign it, sorry.

There is no reason to be driving that fast at any time regardless! If you feel the need to put yours and other people's lives in danger then you deserve your license and car taken away. There is a reason a speed limit is put up. You want to drive like that, take it to a track or join NASCAR !

Now on the other hand, I do feel that the 'Civic' name has taken a fall, but that is not going to change so deal with it! Yes it sucks, and yes I have been pulled over for nonsense before(well Mike has, but I was in the car). But deal with it. Yes sometimes the police officers do take their power a bit far especially near quota time but again, that is not going to change so don't do anything stupid to make yourself stand out or else you are asking for it !

basically they just used street racing as an excuse to **** anyone going over 50, which is fine.. but why call it street racing? It basically has a negative connotation towards modified cars, which we've seen aren't the ones causing most of the problems here..

Stupid comment. Hope you notice that this has got nothing to do with driving or wanting to drive fast, its about protecting our basic constitutional rights, the right to a fair trial, and the right to be innocent until proven guilty. Read the petition more carefully please.

I'll add here one of my favorite short stories.
There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some Exchange students in the class.
One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back And stretching as if his back hurt.
The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question.
He asked, ' Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke.'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground.
The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence.
They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side.
The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn.
They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

DON'T BE A PIG!!

No offence to you, 99% of the population think like you do, thats why we keep getting these stupid laws.

Yes, our rights, this and that, blah blah blah - WE DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHTS !

If you haven't already noticed, wake up! We are conditioned to think we have rights, but guess what we don't. Yes everyone has a right to a fair trial, doesn't mean you are going to get it.

These petitions don't work, the only way you are going to get anything changed is work your way up into office! And even then, good luck.

I am giving you my opinion as you gave yours, don't give me your bull**** about how I am wrong. You don't want people's opinions, don't post anything!

And Rob, I agree with your post 100% !

I think its unfortunate that some of you think that there is no point in signing the petition. Sort of a "just deal with it" attitude. Which has some truth but here's where the problem gets complicated. Where do we draw the line at which we are willing to accept restrictions. Right now, its the 50 over laws, what if legislation is passed that improper lane change offense(currently minor) becomes a six point offense, or even criminal. Will you then just say, deal with it because we can't do anything?

This mentality is dangerous. The petition will likely not directly initiate changes in our justice system, however it may serve to plant the seeds question and debate on the issue. If we accept things without debate then we might as well live within dictatorship. With doubt and debate this can eventually bring about change in laws and even clarify misconceptions the general VOTING public has about the issue. May or may not do anything. Doesnt mean you dont try.

I myself agree that people should be punished for speeding and driving wrecklessly, however I also believe that there should be a fairl legal process to be followed. It seems with some of these new laws police powers are a bit too broad leaving it hard to bring about accountability to those issuing the tickets. We're kinda drifting away from evidence based convictions to "the officers statement says so" conviction. And now that the consequences are so much more serious, how we reach those convictions is very important.

Just my take. Later guys.

Wow. This is obviously a heated debate. I guess I,m on the fence on this one. If anyone wants to sign the petition then go ahead. Going 50 over isn`t street racing it`s speeding. I agree that sometimes cops wave their power around but I (knock on wood) haven`t been pulled over in a long time. Maybe it,s cause I,m not driving around like an idiot. More people get killed from a lot of other things than `street racing` And the media doesn`t help as well. They seem to be one sided in their view. I guess if you modify your ride, follow the laws while doing it and remember that there is always someone else out there with a faster and nicer ride than yours so take it easy.
