Beware car theft ring stealing catalytic converters

Thieves looking for valuable metals have sunk to a new low — under your car.

The tiny bits of rare metals inside — platinum, palladium and rhodium — help reduce harmful emissions from car exhaust. Like many metals, they're also valuable on the world market.

That means recyclers will pay up to $120 for the converter and its contents.

In fact, police say, the high prices have led to a whole new phenomenon in metal theft across the country. Thieves skulking around parking lots aren't necessarily interested in a joyride.

They only pay like $5-10 for aftermarket cats. Most scrap dealers consider them almost useless but then again how does the theif know yours is aftermarket.....

my father and i own a shop, and we also do scrapping of old cars, honestly in a week i came make up to 800.00 easily just from those cars, its amazing money, shame that people sink so low tho. i guess in a world like this the process of gettin a well paying job is overrated.
