Auction Car

Hey has anyone bought a car from an auction ? If so did it have any problem whatsoever? and Which auction do you recommmend to go to (In Mississauga)?

Because i'm gonna get my rents and my mechanic to check out Civics only (SiR probably if not Si's) and i'm gonna get it only if it had no accidents. That raises up a question why would it go in an auction if it had no accidents or total damage? Is it cuz of the owner couldn't pay off the lease or is there another reason?

Anyways my mechanic said he'll get me a civic (accident free) with a commission of $300 when i buy a car if not i don't pay him...

Is it worth it? to get a car from the Auction or to get it from a private owner (ie. Autotraders - cuz they seem like scams too - in my other post u'll know why)

Thankz a lot for the help.

Doesnt really matter where you buy the car from, as long as you carfax it.

I bought my car from a detailing shop, it was sent there from a wholesaler for a couple days before it got sent to the auction.

It was a 98 civic si couple with 140 kms
6900 before taxes.

You wont find any sir's at dealer auctions..and if there ever is one its there becuse its junk. other dealer pics Wholesalers and through everything long before it goes to dealers and if they pass up on it...(there will be a more than good reason), it will go to auction. In the past 6 weeks ther has not been a SIR at Milton or Toronto dealer auctions.

Also, you will need a dealer licence to goto a dealer auction.

You will be very hard pressed to find a SIR that hasnt seen acident. I just found one after looking at 14 SIR's for a customer. Was very very hard find though - i am very very picky. They are all hit, rebuilt, km rollbacks, theft recoveries, and repaints.

Carfax gives you a good history, but its not error free. If anyone is is an accident and they fix it themself it wont be listed.

Buy with caution.

Sorry hope this helps!

autotrader is full of auction cars, thats all the dealers on there have usually unless its Honda or Acura dealer. so no different then having the hook up you have to go to an auction and buy the car cheaper. remember, after bobs imports heaven buys the auction car, he adds like $3000 to it for profit, so your essentially cutting out the middle man.

i'd either go auction or private sale. why not see what your mechanic can grab for you, i've seen some auction cars that were damn nice, and i've also seen some crap....but their auction price usually reflects that.

i see tons of SIR's at auctions.
most of them are theft recoveries.
the obvious is gone motor, wheels, front end, rear tails, suspension, seats, cluster, door panels, sometimes even doors.

prices usually depends on how bad it is... for example the last SIR i seen that was decent only had its motor missing and front end gone, wheels and cluster and seats everything else was in tact and wasnt broken or abused either... the price was 2500. that was really cheap considering the fact that you can bring that entire car back to life for another 3500. which would include all the paper work etc....

now depending on the vehicle your getting it might have a previous write off aswell (that is if you go to a total loss auction) which you wouldnt know until you carfax it. so be carefull

hi, i have had mostly bad expereinces from auction cars, i work for a used car dealer (leading edge tcc's newest affiliate) and auction cars are always repaints, and mostly bad cars, hence the reason we don't buy cars from auctions, buyer beware

good luck

i'd be weary of an auction car. I used to work for budget rent-a-car and they would send cars to the auction with 40,000km on them. But before they sent them they would give them their first oil change since brand new. Rental car places don't maintain their cars and send them to the auction once they've reached their km limit.

Not all dealerships are bad.

I got my SiR from Barrie Honda about a year and half ago. I would rather buy it from a Honda dealer than some joe off the street,

I also bought my Si from a Honda dealer. Sure the price may have been higher then private, but it also buys you a warranty and hopefully a service history. I even got life time free oil changes with mine. I don't think I'd ever buy a car private unles it was old and cheap. Big dealers I hope would not rip people off.

Bought a Corsica from an auction in '96. A 90 LT for $200 and it had 120 km on it at the time. Seemed to good to be true but now it has over 310,000 km on it and still strong and use it as my winter beater.

Bought my 98' coupe from a dealer. Worked them down $1200 bucks. Car is in perfect shape.

I dunno, I had some luck but I've seen others get burned big time from auctions.

dealers buy auction cars too, any car dealership will have auction cars in their used car lot...unless its a local car with service history, in which case you know its not auction and its had such and such work done to it, its still a risk to buy used from a dealer. many dealers are shady when it comes to their used cars, i've worked for both a VW dealership and Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler and both were the same. auction cars that unless the mechnaics said, i won't sign the safety unless this, this and this is done...the salesman would try to sell anything and be like its fine.
