I would never buy something like a Gixxer, CBR, R6, R1, etc are too much for a beginner.

My insurance on a 01 Katana 750 is only 4500 a year. Not bad imo.
I will only be paying $67/month for an 03 Ninja ZX-6R

i got a question what's a good bike for a short rider like me i can barely tiptoe on my buddies zx6r, i was thinking of getting an r6 or 91 cbr600f1,but according to you guys it's not wise for a beginner to go for a 600. what's a good bike for me to start off i want something that looks cool

ninja 250 or 500 is a good beginner's bike.

if you get a 600 i'd say maybe grab an older one. my friend's first bike was a Honda CBR600F3. He never dropped it or got into an accident with it. Just don't be stupid and be sure to take the course.

gcivic: Katana 600....bit small then the bike I'm buying.

Cantonagod: I'm younger, have my M1 and I'm in the magic high risk catergory, 19 to 25.

I don't even have my M1 yet. I will be doing it shortly and taking all the courses.

guess i was a biker at one point..
gotta admit, it's still in my blood..

learned on a CB 900F
went from that to a Wing..

disagree about the "don't learn on a big bike" theory tho..but understand where people are coming from when they recommend it

i learned big, stayed big..only time i ever dropped one was backing the wing into my parking spot, foot hit an oil stain..

dunno what i'd go for if i got one again..probably a RoadKing, and a 600F4 in the side bag just in case

oh and...suckas!!! i got mine way before all this M1, M2 shyt came out

Si Veloz,

I'm with you. I have no idea what this M1, M2, G1, G2 stuff is all about. (Yeah, I'm old too).

Just as a "Head's Up". Bikes are just as popular, if not more than Civics with thieves. This past weekend, my sister's 2001 Ninja 500 was stolen out of the underground parking spot of my parents place! F*ckers!!!!

I happened to leave my Civic there this weekend and it was untouched. My sister is pissed to say the least. She called the cops and they told her to just call her insurance company. She is going to see an adjuster tomorrow. At least her bike is covered for theft.

A long time ago, when I had a bike, it was stolen from the same place. The bike was already 5 years old and it wasn't worth much but it was still stolen. I had no theft insurance at that time. Since then the place got security cameras and stuff bit this **** still happens.

I guess I want to say, if you get a bike be careful and lock it up really well.

Mark

Si Veloz, My sir....your theories are good and bad....it all depends on the person in my opinion. However you gotta remember that the 600's out there now will probably out accel and perform the bikes that u guys learned on. These new bikes are getting lighter and fast every year.....its crazy..the new R1 coming out is rated at 180 hp to the crank...thats stock...insane!! My first bike was a 99 ninja zx7r. This was a biker bike but it was heavy..therefore the r6's and gixers out there could keep up to me if they were good riders. It all depends guys...if you are a beginner..and don't know anything about bikes/uv never riden a friends bike or anything along those lines....then think u should start on a ninja 500. It is small and very user friendly. However if u are somewhat inclined toward bikes....then it should be safe to start of on a 600. I personally think a cbr 600 is a perfect bike to learn on....its very rider friendly, the riding position is comfortable for long rides and its more forgiving then an r6....also....DON'T BIKE A NEW BIKE FOR UR FIRST BIKE.....**** will happen and insurance will rape u....thats my 2 cent on the topic

Bought 2002 CBR 600F4i..first bike. Like others have said i think it all depends on the rider. Im a little oldler and I want to live so Im gentle with the 600. And insurance...$4000 +?? You've gotta be crazy..I would never ride at that price. I like my price of $65 a month.
