I should probably add that the wife has a large part in the decision. She wants something AWD for the winter and bigger then the Coupes we have now. The Impreza fits both needs.

Neither one of us likes the Fit and having driven a Accord, she didn't like the size. I'd love an Accord SE, but she's not a fan. We are still waiting for the new CRV though. I've seen spyshots of it and it looks very nice.

women usually think they have to have AWD when going for an SUV or new car these days since it will save them while driving during the winter..lol...i use to think the same way.

my wife was of the same opinion when i bought the sl awd murano for her last fall. the mechanism didnt kick in once during all winter. its a real time stand by version and i asked this at nissan once...and was told that unless the driving conditions are extremely extremely bad...there is no need for the awd to kick in.

i bought it before katrina and high fuel prices....the 18 mpg consumption owns me everyday now..lol..and its supposed to be the most fuel efficient V6 in Canada

The Impreza is still on top of the list. AWD and its a car. The Matrix AWD version only comes in a auto and witht he base engine. The new CRV I'm still waiting to see and the RAV neither of us liked the interior. I'm still trying to avoid an SUV alltogether.

I'm also going to look at the Mazda3 and a VW Golf eventhough they are FWD.

The search continues.

Thats a really nice car, I would go for it, in black. Not bad for 23K.

Michael, I too like the Impreza a lot. When (and if) I will ever get rid of my Civic the Impreza will be on top of my list. Unlike you, however, I would go for the wagon only b/c it's a bit bigger and has a rear wiper. I love rear wipers especially in the winter.

To MY SiR's point earlier, I also think that the Accord is probably a better deal, but I don't know why the Accord just doesn't sit well with me. It looks too boring.

the Mazda 3 is pretty nice, mine has been reliable so far.
the power is there when you need it and looks to boot.
The Mazdaspeed 6 is all wheel drive but out of the price range.

and to the haters of Mazda, if you don't have first hand experience don't put the 3 down.

They cost that much?!?

Am the only one that doesn't like the look of that car? Recently, I was driving near one and passed it. I think that might be the only Honda that I don't like the look of whatsoever. If you like it, that's fine. Everyone likes something different. But, the shape/design/styling, imho, is really bad.

i think the sentra is redesigned for 07
dodge caliber is pretty cool too

i like the impreza but i havent had any experience wiht the non turbo ones. i cant believe it's only 23gs though. for the amount of power and awd it sounds good to me... like i said though, from my experience the all the turbo imprezas needs tonsssss of maintenance.. what is the diff between the 2.5i and the 2.5ts?

I suggest the matrix, friend of mine has an 04 XRS 6spd. It's slightly quicker than my SiR (but not in the 1/4 mile ) and it gets great fuel mileage. It's extremely versatile, can fit just about anything and everything in it, and they look good. He hasn't had one problem with it to date.

great car, great value.

(my $0.02)

I have first hand experience... and i could never drive a mazda... i mean i guess it's ok style wise from the outside, but the interior drives me crazy, it's all looks over functionality which is something i hate... and i just don't like the finish of the interior either.. again personal preference...

really as long as u like ur 3 then it's good, that's why we all own different cars right? just personally i can't stand mazdas...
ya that plus the fact that ford = mazda... doesn't help my opinion of the matter...

i'm not a huge fan of the imprezza unless it's wrx or sti, but if u like it then go for it... that's also antoher car where i can't stand the interior

have u driven one yet? maybe just poney up the extra dough for a TSX? u won't regret it...

So far...
06 Impreza has AWD and decent power and tq. I do like the look of the car, but it's very lacking in features and options like a decent stereo, moonroof and folding seats.

07 Rabbit was surprising nice. The interior and features were very nice, nice stereo and options, good power and tq, but I'm not sold on the looks. It would definately need bigger wheels and a drop.

06 Mazda3 drove very nice and has good options and features. I didn't like the colour coded seats that match the exterior though and the orange gauges hurt my eyes. Not too fond of the look of the car. Kindy ricey IMO.

06 Matrix only can be had with AWD in the base model with an auto. The XRS is pretty good though. Lots of nice features and options, but it looks too much like a minivan.

The wife doesn't want a bigger car like an Accord, eventhough I like them. Fit is too small, Caliber to ugly.
