american car

So i went to go check out a car today(1999 sir)and the car is great. It was the color I was looking for and was well taken care of but the only problem I had with the car is that it was from the states. My problem is that i hear cars coming from there could be salvaged cars or the odometers are played with. Like i said I loved the car so am I just being stupid or what?

its good that u worry about this car, its normal to always think about the "what if". Try your best to find out as much as possible with this car, if not jus go with your gut and try it

I went throught the same thing when looking for my car, its always a risk when looking at american cars, especially the 99-00 siR. The car may appear to be in good condition but that may not be the case. I once went to look at an siR that loooked flawless, but when i pulled it up on CARFAX, it turned out it had been totalled. Do a compression test on the engine, examine the paint (near the windows). There is more than 1 thread on buying a 99-00 sir, check them out.

Cars from canada could also be salvaged or have odometer fraud, those are just some of the problems you can run into when buying any used car.

Yeah I came across this problem when I was looking for an SiR

The US Si has a few less features than an SiR
eg. heated mirrors, abs (??)

Make sure the VIN match up on the engine to the one on the firewall.

Make sure you research all the info you can about the car your going buy. Ie. carfax, V.I.P.,

If it's at a dealership I would get another tech at a shop you trust to give it a good once over before dropping the $$.

thats true ... however a car (either from Canada or the USA) needs to have a used vehicle package given to potential buyers. A canadian car would should the Salvage title... an American car would look clean on the Canadian system. so thats why you hvae to be careful with American cars because they can hide that information

American cars in Canada are 90% of the time accident victims, ESPECIALLY an SiR, GSR, or other highly desirable cars.

I know a buddy of mine had 5 99-00 USDM B16A cars sitting at home, each of them missing the drivetrain and wheels... often the seats too. Thanks to thieves! He built one for himself with a JRSC B18C JDM and Sparco Torino seats, and full ITR 5 lug swap with the CW wheels. It was pretty nice.
