its pretty clear to me that people want to get older cars not to fix them but to make them faster and race them ... to each its own , if you are thinking of using your car for racing and stuff then you may as well buy an older car but if your idea is to get from point a to point b with less problems just get a newer car.

I'm not into the racing scene so i really can care less if my car weights less or turbos , or b16 . Though if i had the money to afford 2 cars then sure i'll also buy an older car as a "project car" and put all those things in it . But you don't want to practice your mechanic knowloegde on your primary or daily car that is going to get you to school or work.

thats because you didnt have any accidents, all my friends ended up paying somewhere around that for their cars.

Even thouhg my soo called "accident" was in a parking lot and it was just a scratch the insurance company threw me with the dangerous drivers out there and i have to stay like that for 6 years paying double what you pay .

4-5 years is a long time.

At the end of the day its your decision . But this is my experience.

I bought a car that was 10 years old , which i paid for 4000 $ . The car drove well for 5 months after that it was a nighmare. I needed for college and work however i can not remember how many times i had to call in sick for work or missed classes because the damn car will keep breaking down. Not to mention that in a year i spent at least 1000 on repairs ( main repairs because i couldnt afford the secondary ones), plus the regular maintance (oil , filter , etc). If you are making 1200 a month part time and you have to pay 400 insurance plus 120 on gas the last thing you want to do is spend an extra 150 or more for repairs , and also loose some money because you will miss work.

I had my car for 3 years , i spent at least 4000 on repairs plus i probably lost another 2 grand on time i took off work everytime it will break down . And they gave me 400$ when i traded it in for a newer car and i was lucky the guy gave me that because other dealers didnt want to give me a penny for it.

Now, i kind of learned my lesson , i bought a 2000 civic in 2006 , i paid 7000$ for it , i prob spend 1000 but on maintanence in the last two years , not major repairs , never missed work or school . The best feeling is that you can trust your car everymorning when you go down to the garage to start it. It feels like crap when you are driving an old car and you are thinkinh something its about to break !

Now if you have a new car it doesnt mean it wont break down but your chances are better, plus it is easier to sell it after 3-4 years.

If you are just a regular joe that knows a thing or two about cars and then you get a car that is between 5-8 years old you should be fine. Any older than that you better know how to fixed it or be willing to pay a mechanic and they are not cheap i tell you
should of bought a honda from the start, old hondas aren't that bad, sure the balljoints might blow on you while your driving.

If you are not in the racing scene.

1. where the heck did you get a b18 from.lol

2. why are you doing the typical race head thing old car b-series engine?

you should be no where near an old car, from the last post you made, i think you'll have a fit every time something goes wrong with the older car.

I say ditch the B18, sell it to someone whos looking for a B18 swap, take the $3000 you get from selling the engine an add it to what you have and buy a $5000 econobox.

if you are just looking for a car to drive should have just told us in the first place.hehe

definately stay away from old cars, or older civics if thats what your are looking at, if your insurance is that high because off the accident, well don't think about a honda, especially civics you will get analed on insurance, thats also one of the reasons i still don't have a civic, im 23 and paying $300 on my 1994 nissan which is registered to my mother.
Thats why i got rid of my motorcycle,EF show and go car,and dailydriver, i only have one accident, and two speeding tickets all 5 years 1 months ago, by jan 1st 2009 it will finally be off my record.

in your situation you should be looking at a sunfire or cavalier insurance wise. plus for $4000 today you can pick up a nice under 100k sunfire easily, my dad uses a 2002 sunfire for winter and work, its very reliable as a daily driver.

Is it even worth paying $900 / month for insurance?! Don't think so unless the car is actually what you need to make money...

Im not sure if this is at me, but I am not in the racing scene, or the tuning scene. I am in the market for a car that is: good on gas, relatively cheap, small, cheap on insurance, and for the price relatively fast.

I did some research on this whole engine swap thing with the civics, and decided that the car would fulfill the above. One thing I might be missing from what I gather is that insuring the car as a stock model, and then doing the swap without reporting to insurance company might not be as good of an idea as I thought...

I am willing to take the risk from what i know however.

I have a budget of around 10k.

Feel free to suggest another good car or idea for the price.

cheers

10k hmmm

seriously you can get a nice car for that much.

1. 2003 to 2004 lancer
2. 2003 ford focus SVT
3. 2003 sentra ser spec v all these are nice reliable cars, if you can put down 10k i seriously recommend checking auto trader, you should be able to find really new compacts.

good luck.
