No man.. That isnt true. The chances of a DOHC vtec engine starting to burn oil due to abuse arent any higher then nonVtec DOHC's or SOHC vtec's or not.

Some of the beat down b16's from japan with '30k' might burn oil. My friend beat on his GSR for 5 years and it still dosent smoke when he gets on it, and mine dosent burn the slightest bit eaither, its only got 42k on the rebuild but thats besides the point.

But aren't these engines designed for high RPM's or whatever?

ofcourse they are. My engine redlines at 8000rpm from factory.

Just dont push your redline too often and you wont have to worry about oil consumption problems!

i would agree with always being in vtec and thats what my friend said too, but what if ur like in it sometimes, like on and off kinda thing. would that make a difference cuz i was like wtf when i hread that, but yea if your always in vtec there is always loss of oil, but most the off 5th gen preludes (97-01) burn oil if they not even harassing the car like others most or all the time in vtec. btw i cant wait till my is fully done

I have first hand experience with the 5th Gen Preludes, and I can tell you that NOT ALL of them burn oil. I use vtec everyday one way or another (hence no carbon build up, which can cause cars to burn oil) and NEVER burned a drop. If your vehicle has been maintained properly it should not burn any oil. If its burning significant amounts of oil, you have a problem, get it taken care of!

^^^ tru... we are talking significance...

my car doesn't burn oil... i considermyself lucky

i do an oil change.. full.. and 4-5 000 km later still roughly at the same point.. not noticably dropped anyways..

i think my engine did have low km.. cuz when i seperated it from the tranny the spring on the fork was broken but the clutch had alot of grip left.. meaning that it wasn't used to much at least beaten on

You can burn a bit of oil in a DOHC VTEC car if your in VTEC a lot.
You won't notice it really though as it's so small an amount.

I think that the statement all DOHC VTEC engines leak oil is more true. lol

I crossover into vtec and take it up to 8500 rpm usually everytime i drive my car and it leaks more oil than it burns, which isn't any anymore thanks to my billet cam seal.

But like mentioned before these imported from japan engines with "under 30k or 60k" or whatever they claim can tend to burn oil b/c seriously how many 10 year old + engines don't have weak valve seals or piston rings?...epecially ones that have been sitting in a junkyard for who know's how long.
I know before i replaced my valve seals when i upgraded my valve train my engine burned a little oil, especially once crossed over into vtec.

Buddy the VTEC's were meant to be beaten on.

i had a 98 Neon with engine work ( bolt ons )
and a EG coupe with a GSR swap didnt pull on me AT ALL! we were side by side...

i would warn you!
Dont beat ur car when the engine is COLD!
thats it!

once temp hits.. i hit VTEC once a day!
8200 for mine! im happy!

the turn off is no TORQUE but she pulls super hard, my buddy with the black SIR at the Hamilton TCC meet beat a ralli art .... hahahaa

i kno ur not suppost to beat on a car when its cold .. but i was just checking if this statement is true but it looks like its a 50/50 thing.. when my bro used to work at pennzoil.. this one guy had a b18 in his car (non-vtec) the guy would come in 5k later.. u could hear the lifters and bottomend knocking and then check the oil there is litteraly no oil on the dip stick .. (thats about 1.5-2 L max) but once i did the oil change, ran it for like close to 3 minutes it still made the same noise as if the oil was low.. the one thing i dont understand is that when i got the guy to start the car i looked at the back theres no oil burning?!? and no smell.. im not no professional. but could somebody help me with this..

well chances are if he lets his oil get that low then he's probably missed some scheduled maintainance. That noise could have been the valve ticking, meaning that its time for a valve adjustment.
And running an engine with low levels of oil can do pretty good damage to an engine....like spin a bearing.

VTEC won't engage if the car is cold.
