? About Jump Starting 5 - Speed

Ok , I just got a question about jumpstarting a 5-speed car.

my battery is real old & I will pick one up tommorw , but I need to get to work & to a shop after work to pick up a battery.

when i go to start my car . the radio & such will come on but it seems their is not enuff juice to start the car . If i jump with cables it will start no problem , Im just wondering if , since their is seems to be some life can I jump start my car with out cables ? As in neutral, push car, hop in, pop into 1st, release clutch ??

I dont have cables cause their in my gf's car ? so im just wondering if this method will work for tommorw ?? Thanks

Yeah you can bump start your car. I've had to do it a few times before back in my highschool days. However good luck trying to do it yourself.

Make sure you have the key in and the ign turned on. Get a friend or two push the car to around 10km/hr. Push the clutch in and put it into 2nd gear. Now release the clutch. Hopefully you have enough speed the engine will turn over and start.

Basically instead of using the starter to turn the flywheel to start your engine your using the transmission.

i have done this out of my driveway before, my street has a slight down hill, not even that noticable, and i started my old car like this, just pushed the clutch in and rode it with the car off and key in IGN position when i reached the bend in my street i popped the clutch in 1st gear and it went on.

you should do it in second gear it better for the car. I forget why but reverse or first does more damage to the car... turn the key on, roll the car, jump in put down the clutch and release. you ll either have to put the clutch back down are give it some gas or you ll stall...

Use 2nd gear because it doesn't turn the engine over as quick as 1st gear does, thats why it's easier. You can't use reverse unless you push your car backwards...lol
