99 Honda Civic Hatchback (DX) info?

Hi all,

What is the specs on the (canadian) 1999 Honda Civic Hatchback (DX).

I am thinking of doing a swap or just throwing a turbo on it.

What does anyone recommend, what is the "easiest" transition?

I have a guy who will do the swap, but also will do the turbo.

Any suggestions?

I reccomend Research , research is key before doing anything such as a swap or a turbo set up, always know exactly what your getting into and the problems that can occur as a result of doing such a set up

first of all, i believe the DX doesn't have the same engine as SI...

si is more like about 125/108 with sohc vtec
dx is more like 108/103 with just sohc...

and before you turbo, i think you can look for a cheap z6 or y8 (the SI motors) or find a jdm sohc vtec d15(??)... and then built up the motor for turbo while you drive this stock DX...

that's my suggestion... and you should try doing a search around this forum too, there's lots of post =)

I am thinking about just swapping a B16 DOHC (Vtec) engine into it, and I can always build from there.

I thought my GSR was kind of weak, this civic is brutal.

A friend can get me a b16 dohc vtec for 1,000$ and he will install it for like 300$ so I am thinking about doing that.

a gsr won't be weak on a civic.... the greater displacement and more torque will beat a b16 consider both driver possess the same skills...

the sir is only good coz of its tranny being shorter, so its good for city driving...

and if you can really get a b16 for 1000$... you should go for it
keep in mind... make sure the tranny is running good, no grinds and the clutch is still good... a bad tranny will cost yoU! and if bad clutch, you'll be looking at a couple of bill for a new one... then make sure the engine is clean.. if there's any bent valves or bad pistons, you're looking at tons of bills... then make sure the block is mint, no cracks no ****...

oh btw, make sure all proper mounts and shafts and linkage are given as well... if those stuff not included, you're looking at extra money..

and i'm not sure if your DX has ABS or not, if it does, make sure those axles are abs ones, if not you will need abs ones or you can work your way around and disconnect the ABS feature on the ecu... and is the ecu included? is it running obd1/obd2?
make sure its not b16a1, coz you're having a obd2 car... b16a1 are obd0, and then if you have ones from b16a2... its either obd1 or obd2, depends which sir its from... make sure the installer knows how to rewire things unless you're getting a hareness converter... lastly, make sure everything runs mint and no codes returning... lots of small stuff you're looking into for a cheap motor as well... gaskets all good, all seals are good....

good luck

one more thing, if you're planning to boost a b16, you probably would be looking into a gsr or ls tranny for longer gears... sir is too short... and plus you won't enjoy it on the highway =)

if you're gonna boost the b16, make sure the internals are healthy and also make sure the engine is well maintained by its previous owner... but again for $1000, i think you wouldn't mind blowing it hahahah

if u had a GSR and you thought that was weak, like Tdotsir mentioned... if u slapped that GSR motor in that VIC, it will fly alot faster then your GSR

Well, the motor is from a credible person, who has done a lot of business with the supplier. Everything included.

I have decided to upgrade my braking/suspension.

So, I am going to be putting Type-R Brakes/Bolts (5bolt) on my EK, in the coming days.

As for rim, i'm sticking with ITR rims. I like the simple 16' look.

Suspension, right now Im on like 1 1/2" drop.

I intend on using coilovers, any suggestions..
