Personally I'd choose the 99 over the 98 because of the headlight redesign.

All 6th hatches had the same motor (meaning no VTEC and only single cam).

The details (like added options onto the car) I wouldn't know because I don't drive a hatch myself hehehe ....

Thanks man

Thanks for the quick reply.. so i guess Civic LX and EX are using the DOHC 1.6 motor.. right?
so the hatch used a SOHC 1.6 engine instead... which is more economical on gas? am i right.. point out if I'm wrong Thanks.

no civic uses a DOHC engine, except the Civic SiR (B series)

all civic except the SiR have either a SOHC engine (D series)

Unless you have a swap or unless the previous owner did it.

I've always wondered what the differences b/w the CX and DX are.
From what I understand the differences are fairly neglible.
As far as I know the only differences are that the DX has a tach (big thing for me, I MUST have a tach), um body coloured spoiler, alarm pre-wiring and powersteering. Thats all I know for sure since I test drove both a DX and CX when I was looking for a car.
The only thing I noticed as well was that the CX only had 2 speakers (front) I don't remember if the DX had 4 speakers but I think it did though.
Oh ya and the DX had a tape player and the CX only had a radio.
The DX has 14ers and the CX has 13 in '96 and 14 from there on. I don't know the differences b/w the intergenerational "upgrades" though. Sorry.

Sorry I can't really say much else for sure but its all I remember! I ended up with a CRX!

As for the engine, you could always swap! B18C5.

Damn, I want a 6th Gen Hatchback...

'96-'98 CX hatch
- Supposedly no power steering and only driver's side air bag
- no tach
- black moldings, mirrors, spoiler, skirts
- no cargo lid
- no rear wiper
- 13" steelies
- 1.6L SOHC non-vtec
- radio only
- no a/c

'96-'98 DX hatch
- power steering
- driver & passenger air bags
- tach
- rear wiper and cargo lid
- a/c and radio/tape
- 14" steelies
- colour matched moldings, mirrors, spoiler, skirts
- same engine

There could be more differences but these are the ones that I can remember.

Luckily for me, my cx came with ALL the dx options when I bought it used (except for the coloured moldings and stuff).

I have a brochure from the '00 model years and the DX didn't have body coloured mouldings.
This is confusing!

coz they all took the car apart and put so much mods into it after get the car out of the dealer.. and they never get a chance to notice the different before putting custom things into it..

You're probably right.
Who knows?

But I think you have an overall idea.
There are some similarities too.

CTR-Chick- Did you buy your Civic new? If so? Were PL and PW an option?

CX = no options

CXG = same options as the DX but no colour matched spoiler

96 civic hb = no mid frame reinforcement

97 and up = Mid frame reinforcement

no a/c
no sunroof
no tach
driver side air bag
14" steelies, no covers
comes with trunk cover
comes with rear wiper, standard equipment on these hatches
because of the arch of the hatch
black mirrors, molding, no spoiler
no floormats
1.6 sohc none v tec motor
no low gas warning light
no abs

now thats how cx's are suppose to come!!

the one and only original CiViCRaCeR
