92 Civic Hatchback

I was just wondering if This was a good buy I almost bought a 92 civic hatchback for $500 as is.
It had 225 000k and 140 000k on the rebuilt engine.

I"ll have to change the bumper, hood, and windshield, brake pads, hand brake and interrior needs work(riped seats)
The engine is in good working order and new tires. The hand brake also needs fixing and new pads on the brakes.

I wanna know if $500 was a good deal and aprox. how much will it cost to fix?

this should go into discussion....

plus... depending on the body condition... if there's minimal rust, strong underbody... then 500 bux is worth it... coz putting in like 1g of fixup... u get a nice clean EG....

good luck

You'll probably spend at least another $1000 on it. IMO

imported_gatherer 02-Jun-2005 01:27 PM

Body condition is the big selling point

Here's a good tip: Pee on the car infront of the owner, if he gets mad, then its a good car, if he laughs, then its crap.....

The other day I got my Friend to check the Car. He is a Mechanic for Honda.

He also told me that the car would need a lot of work. Just to get it back on the road and fully certified would be $1000. Then it needed a lot of body work done to it. lots of rust on the back two tire fenders. The interior needed a lot of work also.

So basically after a good paint job and fixing of the interrior would be $2000 and up.
I think I am better of buying a 96 civic that has a good body and interrior because after all the work put into fixing the 92 would probaly cost me between $3500-$4500

Did you already buy this car? Maybe I misread the first post.

ScienTiFiC 02-Jun-2005 04:40 PM

I was very close to buying it but thoght it needed to much work and had to much rust..

For a project race car, this would be perfect given that the chassis is straight.

05civicLX 04-Jun-2005 12:35 AM

good call in not buying the car dude. if there was tons of rust and ripped seats, chances are the car was beaten pretty bad. you can get an almost mint EG for the same cost you would have had to pay for fixing that one up (like $3-5 K)

imported_t_dot_SiR 04-Jun-2005 12:21 PM

however, a car like that is called a "project"... because there are so much to fix up... why not fix it up according to the way you wanted? like a custom color, custom body kit/lip kit, might as well swap a motor, do some modification.....

when you buy a done-up or good condition stock car... you wouldn't wanna mess it up so soon with modifications, so its more like a drive-it-right-now type car...
