6th gen replacing a SI tranny with DX

I have a 98 SI and my tranny needs replacing.. or the main shaft bearing needs to be changed.. as it seems to make noise only when the clutch is not pressed. When I push the clutch.. noise is gone..

I was considering for ease of job, to just replace the whole tranny..

I have 2 options

the shop up the street from me has a DX tranny.. actually has a few from doing swapps.. He said he would put that in for a fair price installed..

Would I notice much of a difference, aside from saving on gas a little.. I do know the fd gearing is a little differant

Would the car be slower?

Please share your thought on this. I tried to search but no workie

The other option is to buy an SI tranny from the wreckers which I have not ruled out yet.

Theoretically speaking, your car will have a slightly slower pick up from start, but with the longer FD, there will be an increase of higher speed for each gear. As for how much, it may not be whole lot noticeable.

There is a transmission chart link in the performance section (archive I believe), plug in the Si and DX transmission and compare the two graphs.

yup, as mentioned above;

DX trannies have a lower final drive, therefore will give you slower accelleration but better fuel mileage.

Si trannies have a higher final drive, therefore will give you
faster accelleration but poor fuel mileage compared to a DX tranny.

hope that helps with your decision on what tranny you should go with...
