For the new 06 owners and soon-to-be. congrats!

I just have a question....whats your opinion on the new DBW system for MT? (disregarding AT cuz i don't even think you fell the presence of DBW in an AT)

I've been reading alot about it and looks like it could be a real PITA. Someone people hate it and some love it....from what I gathered, looks like the people who've been driving MT for years hate it....and for the newcomers they love it (no offense, congrats to you guys too for switching to MT lol). But overall, i think its something "new" to get used to, i'm all for the DBW benefits...but curious if it changes your driving style/habits?

Just wanted to see what the 06 owners think of it. Also, is there a difference in DBW feedback from Si vs EX/LX? I'm guessing since DBW is ECU driven it may be different.

err...if you don't know what the heck i'm talking about when it comes to DBW, i'm refering to that rev hold when upshifting.

I drove the 2006 EX 4DR 5spd and I didn't see much difference with the new drive-by-wire system. Mind you, I have a short shifter in mine so shifting gears with the '06 seemed like I had to do a lot of work, but I found the gearbox very smooth and precise. I can't speak for the '06 Si, but I am guessing the shifting should be the same.

One other comment I have to make about the Si in particular is that, even though IMO it looks very good, it is way too expensive for a Civic. I was looking at the Auto Show at the prices for the Si and with taxes, pdi, and all that other crap the car is 30Gs. C'mon 30Gs for a Civic?

yea it came in just over 30,000, but if you see some of its competors like the BMW 325 series and such i mean its a good price for all the features it has.

As for the DBW system i will let you guys know when i get it.

The DBW takes some getting used to. The throttle response is very quick and the clutch grabs hard so if you are a sloppy driver, the car isn't as smooth. Now that I've had mine for a while, it's fine. I've read the complaints on other boards, but I don't have any.

30g's for a Civic may seem high, but consider the features, options, reliability, safety, etc that the car's have. Sure a Cobalt SS or Caliber may be cheaper, but they are not nearly as nice. The Civic Si main competitor is the new VW GTI and it is alot more money. The Civics are cheap for the great car you are getting.

Mike, I am with you on the features, options, and reliability. I am actually SERIOUSLY considering the EX Sedan for myself. My only comment was that 30Gs for a Civic is steep. True, if you compare it with a Golf or some other performance cars then it's not, but compared to a Civic LX or even the EX I think it's too much. Indeed, you get the better performance, suspension, (arguably) better looks, but can't you get the basic features, some options and definitely the reliability from say an EX Civic or an LX for thousands less? Oh, and let's not talk about having to fill up the Si with premium fuel, b/c that will cost you a pretty penny too.
I don't know, maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm getting too old and I don't appreciate a nice sports coupe when I see one.

That's exactly why I bought an EX.

For 30g's I'd get the GTI or an RSX.
