2005 Si 4-Dr vs. 2006 4-Dr
Hey guys, I am trying to decide between a 2005 Civic 4-Dr Si or a newer 2006 Civic to replace my aging 2000. Auto tranny (I know, sorry, lol).
I'm sort of leaning towards the 2005 since it's cheaper and has some of the 1.7EL features, but I know it has a timing belt that I have to deal with every 100,000km whereas the 2006 has a timing chain.
Do the 2005s still have transmission and cracked exhaust manifold issues like the 1996-2000 Civics?
I'd love opinions if anyone has any between these two rides. I still need to test-drive the 2005, but have drove the 2006 and it's very refined, but lots of road noise heard on the highway (don't know if it's the Bridgestone Craptenas or wheel bearings).
Thanks!

I had an 03 Civic (same as 05) and an 06 EX and I now have an 07 Si. The 06 was a million times better then the 05 in every single way.
No issues with the exhaust manifold on my 03, but the 01-05 Civics were known for issues with the front struts and the auto trannys. Timing belt interval was upped to 160K if I remember correctly. It was a very boring car to drive. It didnt really perform all that well compared to the 06.
My 06 EX was a much nicer ride then the 03. It performed better in every way, was roomier inside, had more options and it looked better IMO then the older generation. Road noise could be many things and I personally did find the cars loud on the highway and many reviews stated the same thing. Loud tires or lack or insulation could be the many causes. They might be more money, but having had both, I would choose the 06 anyday. They did have a recall out for possible rear wheel bearing issues and excessive rear tire wear, but those were the only 2 I can recall. Neither of those applied to my 06.
I have an Si now and its an awesome car.
Any specific questions about either car, feel free to ask.

I own a 2002 civic (same body style as the 05) and I can attest to the fact that they do have some issues with the auto trannys, front struts and exhaust manifolds, along with some other minor issues. Now dont get me wrong I love my 2002 but if your looking to by auto then I would highly recommend looking for a 2006 and up.
