Question 2001 Recall Question

I have been hearing a knocking sound coming from my passenger front wheel and last time I went to Honda they told me there was a recall on struts on the vehicle. I have an appointment tommorow as the noise is getting worse and since my last appointment I have lowered the vehicle.
Do you think they will give me a rough time having the vehicle lowered and fixing a recalled item on the vehicle...or a warranty item?

Appreciate the comments.

well... from logic speaking... if all the same model vehicles of that specific year has exactly the same mechanical problem... then its obviously honda's problem because it is the error during the assembly of the vehicle that caused the problem... it should have nothing relate to your modification (since the problem is not cause by you).... [bare with my grammar as i'm kind of tired right now]

however, i might be wrong... honda can always say its your fault and cancel the warranty, but i think they are dumb to do so just to save the cost of ONE strut... so you still have the upperhand IMO

Well if they already looked at the car then the fact that the strut was defective should already be established, hopefully you have this in writing from your last visit. If the car is lowered then technically you will be running the strut out of spec and that would explain why it has deteriorated since the lowering. Get your new struts, then go home and remove them and put shocks which can handle the lower ride height and save the brand new OEM struts for when you are selling the car.

Just for your information, there was NO recall for dampers on 7 gen Civics, ever. There was a warranty extension with a TSB but no recall. There is a big difference.

Also, I have heard of a few people being denied warranty of dampers because their car was lowered....

2001 civics and up have front strut recalls go to the dealer if you are under warranty and they will replace them.

it will thats why you have to put the stock suspension back in before you go to the dealer and then you will get new ones.

Im just going by what the dealer told me, wheather it was a extended warranty on that part of the car or whether it's a call back...Im just going by what I was told by the dealer.

I brought the car in today and it was the stabalizers...warranty..no problems..sturts look good still.

i am a mechanic at a honda dealer. there is a service bulletin on 2001+ civic front struts. cuz they leak. but i don't think that it is a recall, just a mechanics bulletin, if you got a letter, then it's a recall, but regardless if your car is lowered. you would almost have to have a friend in the dealer as a mechanic so almost lie for you to say that it's not lowered, cuz i know that if i got a lowered civic in that needed struts i would laugh and say you're going to pay 350$/strut, and 1.5 hrs to replace each instead of free! so put your suspension back to stock before hand, good luck lemme know how it turns out
