2000 honda civic ex 1.6vtec

Hey people so i got a little issue with my civic it is making a winding noise as im accelerating and my vtec is no longer working in 1st gear someone told me it could be my timing belt but i just had it replaced a year ago and i just replaced my cv axle to so idk wats wrong with it any ideas

So VTEC works in 2-5? That's odd. I'm leaning away from t- belt. If it was too tight sure it could whine but it'd do that above 3-4k right away not a year later.

Does the noise happen only when moving or can you make it do it in neutral?

Because VTEC is acting up and the noise, I can only guess since it's not like I'm in front of your car, but pop the hood and by hand blip the throttle, rev and hold a bit to see if the noise is there. Listen to the distributor. Which side question does your cluster/speedo act up at all?

Other issue could be the speed sensor. The gear on it maybe some thing trans related is making the VSS not read proper. Either a bad dizzy or VSS could make VTEC not work on a stock ECU
