The sir would be fun to drive =) ..but it's true it does get stolen alot..If your on a budget get an si..cheaper to maintain and engine parts are fairly cheap to replace.

get the Si, insured it, upgrade suspension, then throw in an SiR motor... cheaper insurance, and everything else just basically the same...

there are some SiR for sale between 8500 - 11000 nowadays. they are often over 100,000 km, but its not bad for its age, except they might be beaten up unless you find an elder with more self control

SiR for performance and Si for cost. Although the SiR would be more fun to drive, it will cost more in insurance, gas, repairs in some cases and probably mods too. They are also much more popular with the thieves and one in decent condition may be hard to come by.

I had a 98 Si and I was perfectly happy with it. It was great on gas, cheap and easy to maintain and even more fun to drive with some basic mods.

Its not that expensive..., well at least for me. I'm 24 and insuring my 2000 SiR for $145 a month with full coverage.

I've converted my si to SiR, the insurance is cheaper, the SiR is more fun, the sound of the motor when VTEC kicks in is a big diff, otherwise i'd say they 're about the same, they consume the same gas for me, but the SiR motor is in better shape, and it takes 91octane vs 87 on the Si =p

for cost def go Si
for a bit more fun SiR

The fact that you are a student, I think you should start off with something simple and cost effective.

Si or even DX.

I asked my insurance company when I bought my 2000 SiR and they said it is grouped into the si, sir, si-g groupe which for all those models the insurance is the same....in that case I'd definately go with the sir. But ask your insurance company if they do this first obviously. Mine does so you might get lucky.

SiR's are alot of fun. You can rev the snot out of em all day or baby it and they'll still last you many many years. The b16 is a trooper, great little motor. Plus I've gotten 37mpg on several occasions, usually 30-34mpg avrg. and it is anoying when you have to worry about if it will still be there in the parking space where you left it...lol.

But in the end it's up to you.

good luck
