1995 Civic bad gas milage

Hey guys,

I have a 1995 cx hatch. We put in a "newer" motor a month ago (the old one blew 4 head gaskets).

We were getting about 420km a tank for the first tank, then it went down to abuot 320. We changed the o2 sensor, which seems to give us about 420 again for the first tank....then it went back down to 320. Im pretty sure the last tank was about 400.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Ryan.

It is common for the fuel consumption to increase in the winter, though that is quite the jump. What motor do you have? What grade of fuel are you using?

Hm I got a gas consumption problem too. Summer I used to get around 500km to a tank on my z6 with 91 octane. Now I'm getting 320-350km to a tank. I figured because I idle a lot. Lol gets cold in the car when I'm parked at Tims for few hours lol. But even though I did not idle for more than 2-3 mins when the car was cold and still I couldn't get more than 350km. I tried 2 different o2's both used yet I still got exact same milage. Got new wires, plugs, rotar and cap. Any ideas?

If it was stuck open, you wouldn't get heat in the car... Not sure about op but mine is fine.

Well actually now that you mention it...I barely get any heat...and sometimes no heat at all. And that seems to be around the same time as the gas milage...ill check that...thanks guys

On my 02' I loose close to 100kms per tank in the winter, although that is partially due to the fact that I use my remote starter nearly every morning in the winter and the car idles for upto 15 mins each time.

Check the tire pressure. It might not cause a drastic loss in fuel economy but its worth a look. Also, we are taking about 15+ year old cars. Even my 1.5 year old new Civic gets about 75 k's less a tank in the winter.
